KLA AF12Quick Start Guide

Suspending the KLA Series Loudspeakers

AARNRNG!: Read and follow these instructions carefully. If the loudspeakers are not suspended properly, they could fall, causing personal injury and damage to the equipment.

Rules for Suspension

• Consultaprofessionalmechanicalorstructuralengineer,licensedinthejurisdictionofthesoundsysteminstallation,toreview,verify,andapproveallattachmentstothebuildingorstructure.

• Employtheservicesofacertifiedprofessionalriggerforhoisting,positioning,andattachingtheequipmenttothesupportingstructure.

• Correctuseofallsuspensionhardwareandcomponentsisimperativeinsoundsystemsuspensionanddeployment.

• Alwayscalculatesuspendedloadsbeforeliftingtomakesuresuspensioncomponentsandhardwareareusedwithintheirrespectiveloadlimits.

• Consultlocalcodesandregulationstofullyunderstandtherequirementsforsuspendedloadsinthevenueinwhichyouwillsuspendtheequipment.

• UseonlytheKLAAF12ArrayFrameortheM10installationpointsforsuspendingthearray.

• Beabsolutelycertainoftheintegrityofanystructuralmemberintendedtosupportsuspendedloads.Hiddenstructuralmemberscanhavehiddenstructuralweakness.

• Neverassumeanything!Ownerorthird-partysuppliedsuspensionattachmentpointsmaynotbeadequateforsuspendingtheloads.

• Beforelifting,alwaysinspectallcomponents(enclosures,suspensionbrackets,pins,frames,bolts,nuts,slings,shackles,etc.)forcracks,wear,deformation,corrosion,missing,loose,ordamagedpartsthatcouldreducethestrengthoftheassembly.Discardanyworn,defective,orsuspectpartsandreplacethemwithnewappropriatelyload-ratedparts.

Shock Loading

Whenaloadiseithermovedorstopped,itsstaticweightismagnified.Suddenmovementscanmagnifythestaticweightseveraltimes.Thismagnificationofstaticweightiscalled"shockloading".Shockloadingposesadangertoequipmentandworkers.Theeffectsofshockloadingcanbeinstantaneous,ormayremainundetectedunlesstheequipmentisvisuallydamaged.Properpreparationforshockloadingrequirescarefulplanningandknowledgeofequipment,suspension,andliftingpractices.

Shockloadingofequipmentandstructuresisusuallyconfinedtoliftingandinstallation,butnaturalforces(winds,earthquakes,andsoon)canimposeshockloadsseveraltimesthestaticload.Becauseofthis,structuresandsuspensionequipmentmustbecapableofsupportingseveraltimestheweightofthesuspendedequipment.

KLA Maximum Suspended Load

TheKLAcomponentsareengineeredfora10:1designfactor.UseaKLAAF12ArrayFrameortheM10IntegratedSuspensionpointstosuspendoneKLAArrayconsistingofoneofthefollowingarrayconfigurationoptions.ThemaximumnumberofKLA12Loudspeakersinanyarray,withorwithoutKLA181Loudspeakers,isfive.

Assembling the KLA AF12 Array Frame

1. DisassembletheArrayFramefromit'sshippingconfigurationbyremovingtheriggingpins.

2. OrientthecorrectfeetdownforKLA12orKLA181.

3. InstallExtensionBarpointingrearward(A)fordowntilt,forward(B)foruptilt.

AARNRNG!: A KLA Array consists of one of the following array configuration options. The maximum number of KLA12 Loudspeakers in any array, with or without KLA181 Loudspeakers, is five.

1. Referto— Figure 4.Makesurethattheleverslabeled"B"areup,andslides(1)aredownonbothsidesoftheloudspeaker.

2. Referto— Figure 5.PlacetheassembledKLAAF12ArrayFrame,ontopaKLA12.Nestthefourfeet(1)onthearrayframeintothefeetreceptacles(2)ontheloudspeaker.Makesurethatthesurfacesarealignedandparallel.

3. Onthebottomloudspeaker,pushbutton"A".Slide(1)automaticallymovestoUp Position.

4. RotateLever"B"downtotheLocked Position.

AARNRNG!: Make sure the loudspeakers are properly aligned, and that the Lever locks are in the down, locked position. Lift array a small amount to confirm assembly.

AARNRNG!: A KLA Array consists of one of the following array configuration options. The maximum number of KLA12 Loudspeakers in any array, with or without KLA181 Loudspeakers, is five.

1. Insertthe6mmhexkey(supplied)intothehexsocketonKLA181androtatethekeyfullytotheUnlockedPosition.(Bothsidesofloudspeaker.)

2. PlacetheKLAAF12ArrayFrameontopoftheKLA181,nestingthefourfeet(2)onthearrayframeintothespaces(1)infrontofandbehindtheattachinghookasshownin— Figure 7.Makesurethatthesurfacesarealignedandparallel.

3. Insertthe6mmhexkeyintothehexsocket(Figure 8, 1)intheKLA181.

4. TurnthekeyfullytotheLockedPositiononbothsidesoftheloudspeaker.Inthefinal,LockedPosition,youcanseeasmallportionofthehookinthebottomoftheviewhole(2).

5. Testtheassemblybytryingtoseparatethetwounits.
