From a small beginning….In June, 2000, a work group from the First Presbyterian Church

of Fargo, North Dakota, USA, traveled to the PCEA Kikuyu Hospital in Kenya. They took with them supplies to equip a small room at the hospital for a dental clinic.

Upon arrival at Kikuyu Hospital, the dental supplies were unpacked and inventoried by Dr. Bill Hunter, a dentist from Fargo, and his wife Carolyn.

The room where the clinic was to be located and the available dental chairs were shown to the Hunters.

During that visit, discussion continued between Dr. Hunter and the Medical Officer in Charge, Dr. Salvador de la Torre and the trip leaders, the Rev. Richard Raum and Sharon Secor. The dream of building a modern, well equipped dental unit began.

the dream began…

Since then, the path has been similar to the paths walked in Kenya; filled with ruts and sometimes seemingly impassable,

but always lined with beauty and the miraculous evidence of God at work in the world.

And through it all has been the constant truth that

“…with God, all things are possible.”

Kenyans know that dental health is essential to the quality of life for themselves and their children.

Dental care is not readily accessible to the people of Kenya.

The Kikuyu Hospital Dental Clinic will help to address the critical need for access to quality dental services.

Immediate, comprehensive and preventative dental health care for children and adults.

Comprehensive dental care will we be offered on a fee for service basis, with profits used to provide services to the poor.

A Partnership in Health Care

The Kikuyu Hospital Dental Clinic Project is a partnership with stakeholders in Kenya and the United States.

Members of the Kikuyu Hospital Building Committee and faculty of the University of Nairobi Dental School in 2004.

In 2002 a Memorandum of Understanding was developed and agreed upon, and serves as the framework for the development of the dental clinic.
