Pandamania Vacation Bible School is less than four weeks away. This year’s theme is “Pandamania” and, if you will excuse another one of my puns, let me say this will be a “beary, beary, beary” good Bible school. The “Pandamania” literature describes their program as a “wild celebration of God’s unconditional love!” The promotional material further states, “At PandaMania VBS, kids will discover that God has a purpose and a plan for everyone and that he crafted each of us with his own loving hands.” Our experience of “Pandamania” begins on Monday evening, June 27, and concludes on Thursday evening, June 30. Each night’s activities begins at 6:00 and includes games, Bible stories, snacks, crafts, drama and music. As we prepare for this important event in the life of our church family, I have three simple requests. First, pray for Vacation Bible School. Pray that God would draw many children from our neighborhood and city to join us as we experience the love of Jesus Christ. Pray for our leaders and volunteers that God would use them in teaching his Word. Second, volunteer to serve. Vacation Bible School requires the faith-ful efforts of many volunteers. We still have a need for adult volunteers. Please see Amy Walker or Tim Kennedy and offer to assist with Vacation Bible School. Finally, invite someone to Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School is not just for the young people of our church family. It is an outreach ministry of this church. Let’s reach out and share the word about Vacation Bible School with our friends, neighbors, classmates and co-workers. I look forward to seeing you on June 27 as we celebrate the love of God at “Pandamania.” I know you will be “beary” blessed.
Stuart

Let’s Welcome our Guests!
One of my tasks at church is to take the roll. I take the pew pads and enter the attendance for each week. Make sure that you sign the pew pads. It would also help if you sit in alphabetical order!
All joking aside, it is very beneficial for me to determine patterns of attendance. I also write down the names of the visitors each Sunday, and if they wrote their address down, I send them a postcard. It might surprise you to know that we have between 20 to 30 people every week that are in our church and are NOT members of AUMC. In the 10:45 service, I ask people to stand and greet one another. Do you look for visitors, or do you just shake hands with the people you know?
Stuart is very good at “thinking like a visitor”. He wants the bulletin to be easy to understand. He wants the order of worship to flow easily from one thing to the next. He loves to call and visit with our guests. What else do we need to be welcoming?
We know that our church is beautiful. Our custodians, Russ and Carol, keep the buildings clean and the grass mowed. Our trustees keep things in working order. We have wheelchair accessible ramps and doorways, and hand rails in the hallways. There is no doubt about it; our church is a beautiful and com-fortable place to worship.
Next Sunday, before the worship service begins, think like a visitor. What can YOU do to make our church an inviting place? Are you speaking to people that you do not know? Introduce yourself, and say you are glad to see them. It’s easy! Please move over and allow visitors to sit in your row. It does not matter if someone is “in your seat”. No one has an assigned seat except the choir, the acolytes, the preachers, and me! (If you want to sit in the choir loft, I will see you Wednesday night!) If someone is sitting on your pew, glance to see if they need a bulletin, and offer them yours. After the service, invite them back next Sunday. If we have a luncheon after worship, PLEASE invite them to lunch, and SIT WITH THEM! Look for them to return, and go speak to them again. Invite them to Sunday School, and tell them you will meet them at the door and take them to class. It would be really hard to walk into a new Sunday School class alone!
In my research, I have read that some people dress “down” for their first visit to a church, and if people appear to snub them for what they are wearing, it is their last visit. People want to feel welcomed but not pressured, accepted but not judged. Good impressions lead to a second visit, and second visits lead to a third. Before you know it, we have a new church member. And isn’t that our mission – to lead people to Christ?
I will see you in church! I am sure you will be greeting those visitors! Keep the faith,
Cheryl
PS. I am going to my mountaintop – Lake Junaluska – for Music and Arts Week June 19-26. I always come away refreshed and renewed with new worship and music ideas. I also get to sing in a 250 member choir. We have worship services every morning, seminars every afternoon, and concerts every night. It is something I look forward to every year. I will give you a report in the next newsletter. Thank you for your prayers while I am away.
Proceeds will help these young
men attend summer camp!
Cub Scout Pack 19 News!!
Pack 19 has had a great Scout year! We have 15 boys –all of which have earned their rank and are ready to move up to the next den this fall. I appreciate the dedica-tion of the parents (none are members of AUMC, yet) who have brought the boys to den meetings and outings throughout the year – it has flown by!
In May we went camping at Woodfield Scout Reserva-tion, the boys went on a hike, played kickball, but most importantly learned how to properly display and fold the US Flag. We also visited the High Point Police Depart-ment and had a K-9 Demonstration with “T-bone”. Our last meeting for the Scout year is Monday June 7th. We will be having ice cream and fun & games in the field. Finally, we are assisting Pack 52 with a garden in Trinity that will hopefully produce fresh vegetables for COAT this summer.
Our next regular meeting will be Monday August 26th. In the meantime we will try to have a couple of summer activities for the boys.
We are always looking for new Scouts (1st -5th grade). If you have any questions or know
of anyone, please give Arch Hamilton a call at 434-4179 or visit our website at
pack19.archdaleumc.com.
Thanks for your support!

2011 COUNCIL CAMPOREE WAS A BLAST!
The Council Camporee held April 29-May 1 at Denton Farm Park was a great success. The boys had a great time! There were over 3,000 partici-
pants in attendance. Scouts and Leaders had a great time fishing, competing in special events, riding on the Handy Dandy Railroad and visiting many displays and exhibits including a fighter
helicopter, NC Wildlife Aquarium, US Fish and Wildlife Service and many more. Participants were entertained with a comedy show, magic show, live music and a fabulous fireworks dis-
play. We also are getting ready for summer camp. The boys are having a Car Wash June 18th at Advance Auto Parts in Archdale from 9-2:30pm
(cost by donation) and a Yard Sale from 8am-2pm on that date in the Pumpkin Patch at AUMC to raise funds for camp. Some boys need help to be able to go to camp. If you can help, please
contact Lyle at rangerlylecampdl@bellsouth.net or 336-404-1929. Thanks for all you do for the scouting program here at AUMC.
As always if you know a young man 10-17
years old who is interested in Scouts, please call me at 336-880-6258 or email at

Father’s Day Prayer By Joanna Fuchs
Lord, please bless our fathers, these men who mean so much to us,
who are greatly responsible for who we are and who we are becoming.
Bless them for having the courage to do what’s necessary to keep us out of trouble,
for making us do the right thing, for helping us build our character,
even when it makes us angry; and bless them for pushing us to do our best,
even when they just want to love us. Bless our fathers for being our protectors,
for leading us through stormy times to safety, for making us believe that everything will be all right
and for making it so. Bless our fathers for quietly making a living
to provide for those they love most, for giving us food, clothing, shelter
and other necessary and not so necessary material things,
for unselfishly investing time and money in us that they could have spent on themselves.
Bless our fathers, Lord, for saving some energy for fun,
for leading us on adventures to explore the outer reaches of ourselves,
for making us laugh, for being our playmates and our friends.
Bless them for being our secure foundation, our rock, for holding on tight to us...until it’s time to let us go.
Lord, bless these men we look up to, our role models, our heroes,
our fathers. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

The Charitable IRA Rollover is Back
If required withdrawals from your tradi-tional or Roth IRA create a tax burden, re-cent tax law changes could save you money. The charitable IRA Rollover is back for 2011, allowing individuals 70-1/2 and older who are required to take IRA distributions to transfer up to $100,000 to a church or charity - and the transfer won’t be counted as taxable income. To qualify, the gift must pass directly from the IRA administrator to the church or charity.
Such gifts could be especially beneficial to capital improvements at Archdale UMC.
As always, you will want to consult a professional advisor to ensure that such gifts fit with your charitable and financial goals.

My Turn in the Nursery
Last Sunday was my turn in the nursery to work. My heart wasn’t in it; my feelings were hurt. A child from its mother did not want to part
And it cried a lot with its broken heart. I prayed that soon the hour would end,
That I could relax -- no more children to tend. Soon the hour was over, it felt good to be free.
I said, “Once a month is too much for me!” The very next Sunday as I sat in the pew
A very good sermon, but visitors were few. But down came a woman & her soul was saved.
She was the mother of that crying babe! Then it dawned on me that I had been a part
Of one being saved -- giving God her heart.
From that day on I would never dread
Working in the nursery while souls were fed.
