Requirements

• EHR v1.1• Pharmacy patch APSP 1005• EHR v1.1 patch 6

Introduction

• Provides information about a patient’s:• OTC medication use• Herbal supplement use• Prescriptions written by outside providers and

filled at an outside pharmacy• Prescriptions written within a facility and filled at

an outside pharmacy (until the site implements ePrescribing)

Introduction (cont.)

• Allows for interaction screening.• Patient-specific information can only be

entered through EHR, not through the pharmacy package.

• Facilities who used the Outside RX Menu (ORX) must transfer entries to the Outside Meds in EHR and remove entries from ORX.

Pharmacy Data Management Process

• Enter the drug or supplement information using the Drug Enter/Edit option.

• Select Non-VA Meds at the Application Package Use prompt.

• Marking a drug as a Non-VA Med won’t affect its use in Outpatient/Inpatient packages.

• Match to National Drug File if possible.

Getting Ready for Non-VA Meds

• Mark new drugs for non-VA application use when you enter them into RPMS so that providers will be able to select them.

• Enter all herbal supplements used by your patients.

Adding Herbal Supplements

• Added through Drug Enter/Edit• VA Drug Class is HA000 for all herbals• Some can be matched to NDF entries so try to

Non-VA Med Usage Reports

• Available for multiple patients as an option on the Output Reports menu

• Available for a single patient as a hidden option under Patient Prescription Processing Medication Profile by typing OTH at the Select Action prompt

Provider Entry of Non-VA Meds

• Medication name is the only required field• Other fields (dosage, route, schedule, etc.)

are optional and can be free text.• Electronic signature isn’t required.• Parameter can be set to allow clerks to enter

and DC non-VA meds.
