Each unit variant determines the maximum number of connected SonNet ‘End devices’, including a default of 20 points per ‘End device’.
It is designed and manufactured to comply with CE Class A, FCC Class A, WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regulations
and the identification of a substance as Substance of Very High Concern (REACH).
It also complies with the requirements defined in the Council Directive on the Approximation of the Laws of the Member States relating to Electromagnetic Compatibility (89/336/EEC). For the evaluation regarding the electromagnetic compatibility, the following standards were applied

1.2.1 SonNet Network
The Sontay® SonNet radio system is a proprietary protocol solely for use with SonNet wireless ‘End devices’ It. is comprised of a receiver, battery powered sensors and permanently powered routers. Routers, though permanently powered, can also have sensing elements, accomplishing both router and sensors functions.
Note This unit is connected directly to the SonNet RF-RXS wireless receiver.
The SonNet RF-RXS wireless receiver supports a maximum of 16 directly connected ‘child’ devices (max. 12 battery powered nodes, and max. 4 routers). Routers support a maximum of 16 directly connected ‘child’ devices (max. 8 battery powered nodes, and max. 8 routers).
Caution A maximum of 8 layers of routers in a network and a maximum of 50 nodes per network is permitted, but is dependent on the SIP SonNet-BACnet product.
Note Battery powered devices can only route their signals to the receiver directly or through routers, and not through other battery powered devices.

1.2.2 BACnet/IP Network
The BACnet/IP protocol has been specifically designed for building automation and control networks provides a standard method of representing the functions from third-party devices to exchange of data over a computer network. It operates on a client/server principle, where this unit is the server and a BACnet device or BACnet explorer is the client. The network uses standard cat 5e cabling to transfer ‘service’ requests from a client to the server that performs the service and reports the result to the client. Local IP network policy is used to address BACnet devices.
Note This unit provides a gateway between the SonNet RF-RXS wireless receiver and the BACnet/IP control system.
Each ‘service’ request includes a default set of ‘Objects’. These may represent single physical point, or logical groupings of points that perform a specific function. An ‘Object’ is simply a collection of properties, including ‘object_name’, ‘object_type’, ‘present_value’, etc. that describe the behaviour and operation of the BACnet device.

SonNet Communication Port
Each unit contains RJ45 communication port that is used to establish communications with the connected SonNet RF-RXS wireless receiver. Serial port 1 (P1) is configured to support a RS232 communications standard. This is determined by the position of the SW1:p1 and SW1:p2 DIP switches.
Note This unit also supports RS485 (2-wire+Gnd), and RS422 (4-wire+Gnd). These wiring standards are not applicable to the SonNet RX-RFS wireless receiver.
