Dimethyl Furan (DMF) has been proposed as a potential biofuel, developed by a team from Wisconsin-Madison University, by Professor James Dumesic.

Using a metal catalyst the molecule can be produced rapidly and efficiently from the converted fructose found abundantly in plants, particularly fruits and some root vegetables.
