• Shared online catalog of materials in nearly 400 Michigan libraries state-wide

• Ability to give your faculty, administration and students access to more library materials than any single library can provide
• Increase the level of service offered to your library users thereby boosting satisfaction

• Better support your library users recreation, information, and learning needs
Background on MeLCat
• MeLCat debuts 2005 as a result of ATLAS, the Action Team for Advancement of Libraries Statewide (1999-2002)
• MeLCat enables all types of libraries in Michigan to share materials regardless of the local circulation system they use
• MeLCat is unique in that it includes a delivery service
• Library of Michigan contracts with the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) for MeLCat technical services

• At least two days per week participation in the statewide delivery service ($1,200 per year)
• Software your local system might need to be able to:
– Export bibliographic and holdings records
– Export patron records
– (Optional) Implement NCIP DCB Profile 3
• Staff workstations able to use Java client software.
• Staff time and expenses for training, testing and upgrading records
• Local publicity
• (Innovative local systems only) Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security protocol certificate for your local Innovative server
• (Innovative local systems only) INN-Reach software, if your Innovative system was purchased after May, 2004.
• (Un-automated libraries) Barcode labels for library materials and for patron ID cards.

• Submit MeLCat Application Form to the Library of Michigan.
• Attend orientation to complete catalog & resource sharing forms.
• Load bibliographic records and holdings into union catalog.
• Share circulating collections; authorize patron requests.
• Abide by MeLCat policies; participate in statewide delivery.
• Test system with other libraries. Develop workflow. Go live!
