“We’re in the process of opening a new emergency room at the hospital. Because of the critical nature of the computing environment, it has to be up and running extremely quickly. With VMware View, instead of having to buy 150 PCs and fully configure them, we’re going to roll out 150 thin clients, connect them to their pre-configured hosted virtual desktops, and be on our way.”

The VDI user-experience is crucial!
Desktop virtualisation projects need to deliver these elements of the user-experience:
Easy-to-use connection interface at first log-on – the user should simply have to enter username and password
A user-experience that mirrors that of the full PC as closely as possible
The ability to view video, flash applications and embedded html content without noticeable degradation of image or performance
The ability to integrate other convergent devices, e.g. softphones, within the virtualised PC instance
Some VDI projects fail to gain acceptance within customer environments because they do not deliver these elements of the user-experience.
