THE CAAP TESTFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I have to take the CAAP test?

All undergraduates are required to take the CAAP. Non-teaching degree students may qualify for exemptions. Consult your advisor for possible exemption.  It is best to take the CAAP in the semester after you complete Composition 102 (CAAP Writing) and College Algebra MA110 (CAAP Mathematics). Students are strongly encouraged to complete all CAAP tests no later than their Junior year.

How do I sign up for the CAAP test? You sign up for the CAAP test through your advisor.  Normally, you will enroll in CAAP tests at the same time you enroll in your classes for the upcoming semester.  In an instance where you or your advisor has questions in regard to enrolling in CAAP tests, feel free to call our office.

What happens if I fail the CAAP test?

Teaching degree students are required to meet the CAAP cutoff scores. Non-teaching degree students who have failed a section of the test have an option to fulfil the requirement in the math, reading, and writing labs. The lab option may require several weeks of time investment, so students are encouraged to seek these services and complete the lab option early in the semester. Click here for lab information.

About degree evaluation…

This includes the classes you are enrolled in for the next semester, too. For example, if it shows you have 24 hours toward your degree it does not mean that you have passed 24 hours, it means that the twelve hours you are taking this semester, and the 12 you are taking next semester count toward your degree.

About degree evaluation…The Degree Evaluation is broken up into sections much like a General Education requirement sheet. To find out what else might be needed to complete each area, you can find a PDF of the Gen Ed requirements at: http://www.emporia.edu/dotAsset/7a3396a4-b6aa-44be-bd11-c5501e208235.pdf.

BA Foreign Language Requirement

Depends on student’s proficiency (required minimum level = 210)

[language] 110 + [language] 210 + 3-hour course = 13 hours

OR

[language] 210 + 3-hour course = 8 hours (for students who can start beyond 1st semester of language)

OR

300-level [language] course + 3-hour course = 6 hours (for students who can start beyond 1st & 2nd semesters of language)

BA Foreign Language Requirement

Rule of Thumb for Foreign Language Course Placement• 1 year of high school language = 1 college semester (start

in 210)• 2 years of high school = 2 college semesters (start in 300-

level course)• 3-4 years of high school = SA 314• Spanish heritage students should go to SA 314• Note: Students will take a placement assessment at

beginning of the semester to verify correct course level
