MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMSA Multimedia System is a

system capable of processing multimedia data and applications.

Characteristics of a Multimedia SystemMultimedia systems must be

computer controlled.Multimedia systems are

integrated.The information they handle

must be represented digitally. The interface to the final

presentation of media is usually interactive.

CATEGORIZATION OF MULTIMEDIALinear active content progresses

without any navigation control for the viewer such as a cinema presentation.

 Non-linear content offers user

interactivity to control progress as used with a computer game or used in self-paced computer based training.

ELEMENTS OF MULTIMEDIAText - Displays word on the screen –

is the base layer of almost all programs. Text is still the quickest programs will always use it.

Pictures - Multimedia computers can display photograph quality pictures on the monitor.

Movies - With a multimedia program, your computer can turn into a TV set.

ELEMENTS OF MULTIMEDIAAnimation - Sometimes

animation can express a point better than movies.

Sound - A biting dinosaur isn’t much impressive unless you can hear the bone crunches well.
