Intensive health and Communication Activity (Round One) (April – May 2013)
With the aim to reduce vulnerability of migrants and their spouses; UP State AIDS Control Society (UPSACS) implemented Intensive Health and Communication Activities including health camps in collaboration with National Rural health Mission, UP under guidance from National AIDS Control Organization. This initiative was implemented during 16th April to 04th May, 2013. It was a three phase campaign covering 109 villages of 109 blocks in 20 high out-migration districts.
Major emphasis of the campaign was to make them aware and to provide HIV related services to Returnee Migrants, Spouses of Migrants and potential migrants. Anganwadi Workers (AWW) and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) had accomplished the mobilization part by virtue of making line listing of returnee migrants, their spouses and potential migrants as well as ensured active presence of those who were on the list.
The camps were organized by District Administration and District Health Department with active participation of UPSACS Officials. The services provided were general health check-up, STI counselling and check-up, HIV counselling and testing, eye check-up, TB related services, condom promotion and distribution of medicines.
Based on data gathered from the field, an analysis is being presented below.
1. Overall state level numbers are provided below:

2. The data show that UPSACS has been successful in reaching out to approx. 45000 people in 20 districts for the provision of health and HIV services through health camps. Out of these; 10,163 were migrants, i.e., around 23% of total footfalls in this campaign. Every migrant was counseled and motivated for HIV screening and more than 78% were counseled for STI. Overall, 12,872 persons were tested for HIV and as long as HIV positivity rate is concerned, it came around 0.17%.

9. The graph below presents HIV Screening of Vulnerable population and sero-positivity. Out of total counseling we had tried to screen all vulnerable population and get their screening done.
The graph shows that 400 or more tests had been done in every district and overall 22 persons were found HIV-reactive. Maximum were in Ambedkarnagar and Ballia, 4 each. Out of 20 districts where Camps were placed only 07 districts had come up with zero cases with overall prevalence of 0.17%.
