INDIAN GEOTECHNICAL SOCIETY (IGS)
R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering (Autonomous), Guntur established in 1985 is one of the premier engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh in the self-financing category. Promoted by Nagarjuna Education Society, this is the most sought after college in the region. The institute offers seven B.Tech. degree programmes, five M. Tech. programmes, MBA and MCA.R.V.R. & J.C. College of Engineering is one of the few engineering colleges that were accredited four times in 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2012. The college consistently figured among the top 100 engineering colleges in the country and was awarded the Best Performing Engineering College in the Acharya Nagarjuna University Examination results for the last five consecutive years. Further, the college is graded as AA+ by Careers 360 magazine in May, 2012.The college is accredited ‘A’ grade by NAAC in 2014
About RVR&JC College of Engineering
Inaugurated in the year 2003, IGS Guntur Chapter has been one of the most vibrant chapters of the national professional body. The chapter, which has over 300 members, has organized several conferences, seminars and work-shops, the most significant being IGC-2009.
The department of Civil Engineering, established in 1985, offers B.Tech programme in Civil Engineering and M.Tech programme in Structural Engineering. The department has well experienced and committed teaching staff and highly skilled and motivated technical staff to provide quality education. Civil Engineering department is accredited and awarded ‘A’ grade for three consecutive times. The department has well established and state-of- the-art laboratories to cater to the needs of the students.
Well performing and safe pavements are absolutely essential for improving the quality of life and the challenges that need to be addressed are rehabilitation the existing roads as well as construction of new roads under increasing energy prices, aggregate shortages
and the global warming. Introduction of new materials, reduction of cost and by saving energy and time are much needed for sustainable development. Introducing geosynthetics in the pavement layers improves the strength and stiffness of the flexible pavement. Scientifically designed and constructed Cement Concrete and White Topping roads ensure more longevity, safety and comfort. The long-term performance of white topping roads depends on the bond between the overlay and the bituminous road and joint space. Non Destructive tests like Falling Weight Deflectometer and Ground Penetrating Radar can be used to evaluate the structural condition of the pavement and pavement layer thickness and other properties. The workshop will provide an opportunity to share and explore new ideas and to review innovations in the practical application of using sustainable construction materials and new techniques in Pavement Engineering.
This seminar is open to practicing engineers from government and private organizations, academicians, contractors, consultants, third and fourth year students of under graduate students and post-graduate students ofCivil Engineering.
