• British developed many highly populated cities like Calcutta and Mombay

• Since the British industrialized caste systems could be disregarded more easily

• Reassessment of old traditions and beliefs

• British also encouraged reading and literacy

• Nation-state government also was introduced by the British

• Pro- Hindu movements like the Bramo Samaj and the Arya Samaj started because of British rule
