A panorama of an orchard

For most folks coming off the high of Canada’s fleeting summer season, the return of September means going back toschool, dealing with increasing hours of darkness and, in the words of one very “stark” television character, coming toterms with the fact that“Winter is Coming”. However, for those who can see beyond the sobering effects of coolertemperatures and shorter days, the advent of autumn means one thing: APPLE SEASON! Alright, granted, it also meanswarm sweaters, beautiful colours and pumpkin-spiced everything; but for those with an inclination for baking and fresh air, there’s nothing more satisfying than getting out to local orchards and picking apples right off the branch. (Andsubsequently gorging on apple pie, apple crumble, apple cider, apple sauce, apple… well, you get the idea). We followedsome apple-enthusiasts on their annual journey during apple-picking season in Montreal, all the way to the suburbs tosee what the orchards had to offer. Take a bite!

Honorable mention: It’s not apple-picking, but they’re apple-crazy at The Big Apple in Colborne, Ontario. Stop infor some great pies, a direct look at the pie-making process, and family-fun. We admit, it’s a bit of a tourist trap, butone that’s actually quite worth the stop. (Plus, there is literally a GIANT apple to visit, who can resist?)
