Parish Council Elections
The Parish Council does not meet during the months of June, July and August. On the last Sunday in August,
we have the election for new members for the parish council.
The normal procedure is that each member serves a three year term on the council. After the completion of their three years, that member is must remain off the council for one year before they can be re-elected .
The members who are not eligible for election this year are: Mrs. Virginia Brown, Mr. Chris Slaughter, Judge Lewis Burke, Dr. Josephine Callaway, Ms. Mary Helen Franklin, Mr. James Ander-son, Dr. Kenya Gaskin, Mr. Benny Terrell, Mr. Michael Ezekwe, Mr. Carl Sims and Mr. Harrison Havard, Jr. Either they have not completed their term or they have not completed the one year hiatus before they can serve again. The members who are the chairpersons (presidents) of a church organization are automati-cally members of the council as long as they retain that position.
You are asked to “vote” (list or nominate) three persons to be on the parish council who will serve a three year term.
The parish council is an advisory board to the pastor. Any deci-sion made by the council must be approved by the pastor before it becomes a rule for the parish. Canon Law of the Diocese de-mands that each parish must have a parish council.
We will the election next Sunday after mass. The ballots will be available and collected by the ushers, The ballots will be count-ed by the current council president and vice president.
The parish council will have it’s first meeting for the new parish council on the second Tuesday of September (September 12) at 6:00PM.

As the school year gets underway, we ask for your prayers and support for the 11 seminarians who are headed back to Louisiana to continue their formation. Catholic Extension is offering a $25,000 match for dioceses who raise $100,000 towards seminarian education so if you have ever considered a gift, now is the perfect time. The diocesan Office of Stewardship and Development and Vocation Depart-ment is hosting three brunches to raise money for this effort. All are invited. Please make sure to RSVP. If you cannot attend a brunch, you can still offer a gift. To RSVP or donate, contact Pam McFarland at 601-960-8479 or email pam.mcfarland@jacksondiocese.org.
