Research has shown that repetitive task-oriented movement is integral in upper-limbrehabilitation. In one study, individuals usedtheir finger to track a sine wave on acomputer screen [2]. These individualsexhibited greater tracking accuracy alongwith grasp and release function overindividuals who had not yet received thesame treatment.

WAVER is a web application that utilizes the3D LEAP motion device to assist patientswho have upper-limb mobility and dexteritylimitations.

WAVER presents drawing exercises to apatient that can be performed on the patient’shome computer. Drawings tracked byWAVER provide on-screen feedback to thepatient, as well as the potential to share theresults remotely with a therapist.

The LEAP is a motion-capture hardwaredevice that supports hand and finger motionsas input. When a user waves their hand overthe device, the motion is translated into anarbitrary action on-screen.

REPLAY SESSION

SAVE & LOAD SESSION

WAVER allows the user to replay theircurrent session even after the canvas isreset. Users can also save sessions to theircomputer as a file containing a set ofcoordinates. Previous sessions can then beloaded back into WAVER and replayed.

WAVER provides an engaging, encouragingvisual measure of improvement forrehabilitation patients. Future versions willinclude the ability to send session resultsremotely to therapists to enable real-timeinteraction with a therapist.
