Trademark mask is remade in a form of a knife to symbolize death
Black background signifying the theme of the unknown
Knife has an outward glow making it stand out to the audience. This may also be seen as the character coming in from the dark.
Red text standing as a symbol for gore and death within the film
Grim reaper theme to the protagonist
The dark eyes within the mask may represent the hollow characteristics. The fear of the unknown / not knowing the character’s plans.
Tag line written in red representing the death which will take place in the film. The line also represents the rebirth of the evil protagonist known as ghost face
Ghost face is a well known character in the horror genre and has been brought back for his 4th attach
The knife becoming a part of the mask suggests the protagonist (Ghost face) will be stronger, and scarier than he was in any of his previous film
A knife can be seen as an everyday tool, however when the knife is placed with an evil character the tool then becomes a weapon increasing the intensity of the character as he may find a way to kill at any moment (mysterious characteristics)
Dark, stormy weather suggesting that there is rarely a bright moment in the film
Killer/protagonist is darkened
Boy takes up majority of page showing his superiority over the environment and household.
Killer’s eyes focused directly at the audience. This makes its viewers uncomfortable and threatened.
There is writing in the child’s eyes making more scary due to the deformation in his eyes
- Key themes in horror presented within poster
- Deformed character Protagonist
- Mysterious- Old folk tale background - Male killer
Based on the rule of thirds this poster follows the conventions. I believe that by following this rule the poster has become extremely effective in representing the protagonists power and the overall impact the poster has on the viewer.
The use of space in the poster is used extremely well. the color fade to black on the body of the boy places the title and other credits keeping the focus on the creepy childs face.
INSIDIOUS
Well known films such as Saw and Paranormal Activity are mentioned within the poster to make the viewer want to watch the film, bringing in other fan bases resulting in a higher profit
Pandora characterA character which doesn’t seem a threat my is the killer in the film. The audience may or may not know the and can be used as dramatic irony within films.
Like many film posters, the themes here contain dark lighting and backgrounds. The protagonist’s face is clear and stands out to the audience letting her presence known to the viewers
This tag line is key to the poster as it gives away the evil Pandora character type of Abby.
The characters eyes looking directly at the character is very attacking, sharing a similar characteristics as seen in the Insidious
What makes her interestingShe is not like the typical killer as she does not possess a weapon in the poster, however due to the wording within the poster the audience know not to trust her / not to let her in.
