HORIZON-CL4-2021-DIGITAL-EMERGING-01-06: Advanced optical communication components (IA)
Expected EU contribution per project EU contribution EUR 4-6.million
Indicative budget The total indicative budget for the topic is 25.60 M€.
Type of Action InnovationActions
Technology Readiness Level Activities start atTRL 3-4 and achieveTRL 5-6 by the end of the project.
Expected Outcome: • Reliable and low latency communication with guaranteed service quality for the digital transformation of
industrial processes;• Reduced congestion in data communication when a multiplicity of applications compete for simultaneous
delivery, thereby causing data loss or a delay in data delivery;• Reduced power consumption to some pico-Joule per bit through the broader use of optical networking
technologies, interconnects, and integrated optical communication components;• Lowered barrier for the uptake of performant communication technologies by reducing cost of transmission
interfaces to around 50 cents per Gigabit per second.
Project types• RIA = Research and Innovation
Action• Research project• Minimum one organisation from
three countries, but typically 10 (3 M€ volume) to 20 (5-8 M€) participants
• 100% of direct costs paid• IA = Innovation Action
• Closer to market project• 70% of direct costs paid except public
organizations which get 100%• CSA = Coordination and Support
Action • One organisation may do all the work
but many times these are pan-European network project
• Writes roadmaps, makes surveys
