FROM THE PASTOR… As we begin the season of Lent, we are also about to begin the parish phase of the annual diocesan Catholic Charity Appeal. One of the pillars of Lenten observance is almsgiving and the Charity Appeal is a great opportunity to support a fund that assists over 200,000 people in the State of Rhode Island each year. Most of you have already received a letter from the bishop with a donation card that you may have returned directly to the diocese with your pledge or donation. I thank you for your donation.
In prayerfully considering how much we are able to contribute to the Appeal, I believe it is important for us to know where the money goes and how it is used throughout the state. Next weekend I will give a brief overview of the programs and agencies that benefit from Charity Appeal donations and we will do the in-pew solicitation. There will be envelopes available in the pews for you to make your pledge or one-time gift to the Appeal. Our parish goal this year is $134,000.00. Last year we fell a little short of our goal, but I am confident that if every family in our parish made some donation according to their ability to give, we would have no problem surpassing our goal. Every donation is important and makes a difference. If you did not give last year, please consider contributing to this year’s Appeal. If you did give last year, thank you for your generosity and please let us count on your continued support.
Most of us at Holy Apostles live comfortably and have been blessed in many ways. Let us be mindful of those who struggle or who turn to the Church for pastoral needs. Our generosity is a powerful sign of our gratitude for God’s goodness to us. Msgr. Theroux

CATHOLIC SCHOOL (GRADES K-8)
TUITION ASSISTANCE
The underlying premise of the Catholic School Tuition Assistance Program is that financial assistance is based on need. In order to insure objectivity, the Diocesan Catholic School Office’s policy requires that parents complete a financial aid application form that may be obtained from the Catholic school the child attends or plans to attend next year. The deadline for submitting applications is mid-February. In addition, a letter requesting consideration for assistance must be submitted to Msgr. Theroux as soon as possible but no later than the end of April.
A second premise of the Catholic School Tuition Assistance Program is that it is meant to assist those families who are actively involved in the practice of the faith and in the life of their respective parish. Irrespective of the financial need, the following policies must be followed in order to be considered for financial assistance.
--Families requesting assistance must follow church law on fulfilling the "Sunday" obligation to attend Mass. If the child lives with two parents who are Catholic, both parents must attend. It should also be by way of exception that a family attends Mass in a parish other than Holy Apostles.
--At least one parent must be involved in a parish program/ministry.
--Families must be regular contributors to the parish budget using the weekly envelopes or through Faith Direct.
Stewardship
Time and Talent - We wish to thank all those parishioners who are always so willing to pitch in and lend a helping hand. Their participation contributes to the vibrancy of our community.
