His Life and Legacy
• Hieronymus Bosch was born around 1450 in Hertogenbosch in the duchy of Brabant( Netherlands)
• He was a catholic, He believed in God. Little is known about his life.
• He died in August 1516in the Netherland• He was called many names like Jeroen Anthoniszoon• After his death, he attracted a greater fan, King
Philip II of sprain • the king collected Bosch’s work and “ the Garden of
Earthly Delight” is hang in his room to remind the Spanish monarch to stay in the right path.
His Family• Bosch( 4th son) came from an artistic
family, all his family were all painters by trade.
• Around 1480-1481, he married Alety Goyaerts Denn Meervenne
• He enjoyed a comfortable luxurius life and improved social status through his marriage
• They had no kids together
His education• Bosch went to a Latin school
• After his school years, he became an apprentice in his father’s workshop, which he continued together with his brothers Goessen and Juan after their father died.
Interest and Talent
• Bosch has an interest in the grotesque, diabolical, exuberant things in the world.• He also was Flemish
painter, who depicted scenes of everyday life with a strong element of the bizarre.
Major work • His work was known for his dark and disturbing
visions.• He took a critical look at the world around in
several of his work.• some of his art works were: - “The cure of Folly”(1475-1480) - “The ship of Fools”(1490-1500) - “ The Haywain”(1500-02) - “ The Last Judgment”(1504) - “ The Temptation of Saint Anthony”(1505-06) - “ The Garden of Earthly Delight”(1510-15)
The Garden Of Earthly Delight
• The Garden of Earthly Delights(1510-15) is one of Bosch’s famous works. It depict the decline of the world through sin, primarily, lust, a beautiful garden becomes a dark, fiery nightmare in the last panel of triptych, the first temptation, the fall, the creation of woman.
