Heritage Futures

“Futures” – what are they?

a market in which participants can buy and sell commodities and their future

delivery contracts.

A futures market provides a medium for the complementary activities of

hedging and speculation, necessary for dampening wild fluctuations in the

When the husband of Buddenbrook's daughter

Tony runs into financial problems, her brother

Thomas agrees to help them out by “pre-buying”

their expected crop, which is destroyed by bad

weather just before the harvest.

He took a gamble on the future, losing a fortune.

“this iconic bridge … has not just physically

connected two parts of the city but united our

people … When the bridge was opened in

2011 we hoped it would be a catalyst for

chapter in our history and is viewed not just

as a foot bridge but as a beacon of hope.

Joint statement by First Minister Peter Robinson and

Yet if the only form of tradition, of handing down,

consisted in following the ways of the immediate

generation before us in a blind or timid adherence

to its successes, "tradition" should positively be

discouraged.
