Welcome to our school newsletter - Issue 7
Dear Parents and Carers,
One of the priorities on our School Success Plan is to develop Pupil
Leadership, which is why the positions of Head Boy/Girl and Y2 Perfects
were introduced last year. These positions, along with a variety of other
Pupil Leadership roles in the school, enable the children to lead, use their
initiative and develop their ability to work as a team; all useful life skills!
I am delighted to announce that Samson is our
Head Boy for this year and Olivia is our new
Head Girl. There are also two Deputy Head Boys
and Girls: Billy, Matthew, Abi and Millie. They
have already been working exceptionally well
as a team and have created our first ever
Weekly Round Up, which you will find on Twitter.
The Weekly Round Up is a quick summary of
what has been happening in school and what
is coming up next week. We hope you find it
useful!
Nineteen children in Y6 showed tremendous courage in applying to be
the school’s Head Boy/Girl. They all had to prepare a presentation on
why they wanted the role and Mrs Williams and I were impressed by the
high standards of each presentation.
As I type, the school are currently listening to the speeches the Y6
children have prepared and will vote for who they want to be their
House Captains this year. We will keep you posted about the leadership
of Ashley (red), Horton (green), Hookfield (yellow) and Waterloo (blue).
Best wishes,
Mrs Druce

Securing Outstanding Attendance from 4/9/18 to 26/9/18
Every two weeks we will be reporting what the overall class attendance is. All classes
should secure a weekly attendance of at least 97%.
Stamford Bear says well done to: RE, 1B, 2A, 2G, 3L, 3S, 3DA, 4S, 4J, 5B, 5V and 6PJ who
have fantastic attendance!

Y6 Bikeability Safety Course
The past two weeks have been a great experience for Year 6. We
have been cycling around our neighbourhood learning different skills
and improving them throughout the week. The four instructors have
been guiding and helping us to reach our best. Each day we have
snaked our way to today’s destination and learnt new bike tricks. At
the end of the week we were tested on what we have been taught
and awarded our certificates and badges.
Now we’re much more confident on our bikes and look forward to cycling on the Common.

Bikeability was such a fun task for Year 6. The instructors taught us basic skills on how to be safe
on quiet roads. The skills they taught were about the Highway Code and different road signs.
We also learned about how important looking behind you is and also indicating before you
turn. We had a quick run through the level 1 skills and then checked our
bikes. Then we did a warm up before heading out on the roads. On a
first journey up Christ Church Mount we were happy about being on our
bikes and learning new things that we can teach other people. We
loved to ride freely in the snake, an orderly queue and be out of school
on an adventure with our friends. We learned how to do U-turns, turn left
and right into and out of a side road, indicating from a minor and major
road and start safe and stop safe. This was an amazing experience for
us!

I’ve always wondered…
Are buggies and prams allowed into school?
With all the children and staff in school our hall, classrooms and corridors are very busy so
unfortunately we are unable to allow prams and buggies into school. The only exception to
this rule is if there is a little one sleeping. Please use the scooter and bike racks to store your
buggies in case of rain.
Update and forewarning about Parents’ Evening - on Monday 12 and 19 November 2018
Please can we remind parents not to bring their children to school on Parents’ Evening. With
nearly 600 pupils in the school we do not have the space to accommodate children who are
waiting whilst their parents meet their teacher. We have received feedback from parents that
the hall was too busy last time, as children were sitting on the blue chairs, that were meant for
adults so people couldn’t get into the hall. In addition to this, we have had issues with
unsupervised children in classrooms and corridors so would appreciate your co-operation with
not bringing your children to school on Parents’ Evening. We would encourage parents to help
each other out with reciprocal arrangements for childcare. Hopefully, advance notice of these
dates gives parents the opportunity to put the necessary arrangements in place. Details of how
to book Parents’ Evening appointments will follow towards the end of October.

Welcome to our Reception Class 2018
Last Thursday our new reception classes started school full time after a brief staggered entry
period. The school team are delighted to welcome the new children and families to Stamford
Green. Here are some photographs of the children that were taken during their first few days.

What makes your child happy at school? Is
it the teachers? Is it the environment in
which they learn? Is it the new and exciting
things they learn about?
The answer to this is most probably yes but
something children are most happy about
whilst they are at school is the time they
spend with their friends.
We encourage the children to build positive
and happy friendships with others, where
they feel safe and understand the need to
care for one another and be cared for in
return.
From their first day in Reception to the last
day in Year 6, the children at Stamford
Green build friendships that they treasure
and that make them happy throughout
their entire school journey.
‘Friendship means that everyone plays with
each other and that you are nice to other
people. My friends make me feel happy at
school and they play fun games’. –
