NCOA Annual Meeting - May 22nd
Two Excellent Programs MOB and TCAFP
“An Amazing Combination of Senior Joy”
Matter of Balance
Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention
Both Evidence Based
Both extremely effective
Keys to Both Tai Chi for Arthritis:
Body, Mind, “Moving Meditation”
Centuries old - brought into the 20th century
Seated version is great for frail/unsteady
Matter of Balance:
“Fear of Falling” very prevalent in many seniors
8 weeks of talking, exercising and sharing
Helps seniors to get engaged again
Why should they join forces? The key is to capture the energy that has
been generated by the 8 MOB classes: “Off the Couch and Out the Door”
Enthusiasm and participation in 8 weeks of activities
Why allow all of that newfound energy to dissipate back into the couch?
Maintain the Momentum Invite all to a 9th session.
It will generate curiosity
Most will have cultivated new friends
Expanded Congratulations
Brief comments by each participant
Snacks and munchies to celebrate again
Highlight the Changes Most if not all will have undergone a change
Major difference between MOB Session 1 & 8
Worry, almost fear Happy, relaxed
Session 1 to Session 8
Participants are enjoying themselves
especially the interplay among one
another. Rejoining the community
and getting involved with life again.
Sadness, or at
the very least
unengaged
Doesn’t Make Sense To Go
Back To The Couch Recommend and Demonstrate
Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention

Balance Improvement
From then on it is just conversation as to how you
can improve their life, or traffic to their company.
