Growing Moral and Ethical Leadership

Around the World

Vision

BYU Management Society

• Not just a trade organization• Not just a luncheon or breakfast group

We need members of the BYU Management Society to help build the moral base of our communities. You have standards, ideals, and values that will not only lead you to success, but will bless and strengthen this nation and all the world.

– Elder David B. Haight

Troy’s Top Ten Tip for Growing Your Membership

#10 SET A GOAL

• Linked In• Facebook• Twitter• YouTube

#9 USE SOCIAL MEDIA

• All of the these folks used to be active members.

• Do a survey.• Offer them free membership or a discount on

membership.• “Reunion” meeting

#8 MINE YOUR DATABASE

• Two for one• Half price off• Recognize member bringing friend• Contest

#7 BRING A FRIEND PROMOTIONS

• Sherrie Dew (woman professional)• Jeff Benedict (author)• Neal Maxwell (Church leader)• Phil Smart (Philanthropist/Community award)• Wally Joyner (athlete)

#6 GET “BIG NAMES” TO PROMOTE

• Place more people in more jobs than any organization in the country.

• Have hundreds of professionals with whom they are working.

• Often have service missionaries• Always have a director• They hold special events; co-sponsor

#5 USE LDS EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

• Lunch is most common• Breakfast is second most common• Fireside• Sporting event• Conference• Charity golf tournament• LDS movie

#4 MIX UP YOUR EVENTS

• Must get permission from stake president; but then can get it in every ward bulletin

• Ask the Area Seventy• Ask the Regional PR Director

#3 USE WARD BULLETINS

• J. Rueben Clark Law Society• BYU Alumni• Cougar Club• LDS Employment Services

#2 INVITE SISTER ORGANIZATIONS

• Most people decide whether to go to an event based on the quality of the speaker.

• The more exciting the speaker the more likely a person is to come.

• One good speaker after another creates a “buzz”

• Eventually it becomes a “can’t miss it” organization

#1 HAVE GREAT SPEAKERS!

• I have friends in the organization• I owe the organization a lot• I like the speakers• I find clients• I love the vision

WHY I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR ALMOST 25 YEARS

• Catch the vision!• Be a cheerleader• Lead by example• “A man filled with the love of God is not

content blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.”

-- Joseph Smith, 1840
