Our Goal

Our goal is to be a means of rewarding young people for making wise choices at home and school. We hope to teach the beauty, excitement, and stress-relieving benefits of outdoor activities. We believe that an active outdoor lifestyle is a great alternative to the pitfalls that many young people encounter.

home. • Participants must be able to work for the common good

of the group effort.

What starts the process?

• A GSYC leader initiates the invitation

• A teacher recommends a student

• A parent inquires about the youth campers

• A student asks to go camping with us

• An adult offers to help chaperone

Acceptance Process

• The student is considered for membership.

• Grades, character, integrity and other factors are considered.

• Parents/guardians are contacted through a letter or in person.

• The new camper is accepted if he/she meets the guidelines.

Basic Policies

The Green Swamp Youth Campers have a non-discrimination policy for race and religion, but we reserve the right to base inclusion decisions on lifestyle and behavior choices. It is important that campers be persons that are respectful of the outdoors and each other. They need also to be persons that take care of their physical health so that they can actively pursue outdoor activities. We wish our outings to be pleasant and wholesome, so to that end, we will not include those who are divisive, disruptive, or participate in harmful activities (i.e., smoking, drinking, drugs). Our group welcomes those that will fit into our camraderie.

Necessary Forms

For the protection of the club and any and all individuals that are kind enough to assist our young people, it is necessary for youth campers or anyone attending a Green Swamp Youth Campers activity to have both a release from liability and medical form on file.

An Important Point

• The Green Swamp Youth Campers is an informal club. It has no dues, no financial assets, no insurance of any kind, no official officers and cannot meet any financial obligations. Individuals associated with, assisting, chaperoning, driving or any way involved with the camping club, do so of their own free will, time and effort, and do so as “Good Samaritans” in an effort to provide youth with special experiences. No individual will be responsible for any legal liability associated with the club. If they were to be subjected to such liability, the club simply could not exist.

Be Sure You Read This

• Anyone accepted as a member for an activity does so with full knowledge that all costs, liabilities, and legal responsibilities are assumed by the camper and the campers parents/legal guardians. Proof of medical insurance and a notarized release of liability will be required for participation.

• Campers and their parents/legal guardians bear full responsibility for inherent risks associated with active outdoor activities.
