A great invention:

The telephone

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876.

The first words spoken on the telephone were:

“Watson, come here, I want to see you.”

There are many different shapes and sizes of telephones.

- Some are big and square;- Some are small and flat;- In the past, telephones were

black;- Now, telephones can be any

colour.

In the past, telephones were made from metal.

Now, they are made from plastic, rubber and glass.

Telephones are used for contacting and talking to people far away from us.

- Before the telephone, people had to meet each other to talk to them.

- In the past, people had to wait for weeks or months to receive letters from friends or families in other countries.

Telephones are used for contacting and talking to people far away from us.

- If Alexander Graham Bell didn’t invent the telephone we wouldn’t be able to talk to our friends and family in other countries.

- We wouldn’t be able to call for help if we had problems.

- If there were no telephones, we couldn’t talk to our boyfriends or girlfriends at home or make plans to meet them.
