Grandma Math Word Problem
A grandma wants to go to the south of France over the weekend, but she cannot decide if she wants to take a plane, a taxi, or a train. The cost of each transportation mean was written on a piece of paper, but sadly the grandma lost her glasses. All she can remember is that the plane flight cost the same amount as the train and taxi rides put together. Also, that the train ride cost half as much as the taxi ride. Altogether the plane flight, train ride, and taxi ride cost 784.50CHF. How much does each individual transportation mean cost?
Answers T = Train ride X = Taxi ride P = Plane flight First equations: P = T + X 2T = X Second equation: T + X + P = 784.50 Third equation: T + 2T + (T + 2T) = 784.50
3T + (3T) = 784.50 6T/6 = 784.50/6 T = 130.75
To find X: 130.75 * 2 X = 261.50 To find P: 130.75 + 261.50 P = 392.25 Final Answers: Train = 130.75CHF Taxi = 261.50CHF Plane = 392.25CHF
