adulterous sin“The crux of the indictment is Israel’s failure to know the Lord, so visibly expressed in her harlotry. The theology of [Hosea] as a whole identifies the fundamental sin of Israel to be the lack of knowledge of the Lord.” C. H. Bullock

You adulterous people! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred towards God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James 4:4

Gospel Truths from Hosea

Gospel Truths from Hosea1. All sin is adulterous.

You have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice those things yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?

Romans 2:1-3

Do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed.

Romans 2:4-5

Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone.

John 8:7

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 1:8

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:20
