Gifted StudentsWhat Do You Need to Know About Them?
Betsy Douberley July 2011
Gifted students are often perfectionist and idealistic. They
may have a strong sense of justice/injustice.
Gifted students may experience heightened sensitivity to their own expectations and those of others.
Gifted students are asynchronous.Their development is often uneven. They may excel in one area and lag behind in another. Motor skills are often not at
the same level as academic skills.
Gifted children are problem solvers.
Gifted students often think abstractly and with complexity. They may develop
advanced reasoning skills at an early age. However, they may need help with more concrete skills such as organization and
time management!
Gifted students who do well in school may define success as
getting an "A" and failure as any grade less than an "A".
They are kids first…individual and unique!
