RefWorks 2.0 BETA

Getting References Into Your Account

Special Note on Exporting: I will not cover all databases in this slideshow. I will cover:

Summon & Google Scholar

If there are other databases you would like to export from but do not know how, go to the Exporting tab.

If there your specific database is not in the list, please email refworks@ucalgary.ca

Summon

Summon is the search box you first see when going to the library homepage

• When you search in Summon, each result has a folder next to it• Click folder to save item• After reference is in folder, a green check mark appears on folder

• A static bar at the bottom of the results page is where your “Saved Items” are located.

• Click the “Saved Items” folder to view and export items

• A box with your references will appear

• At the top is a link to RefWorks

• Click to export• When prompted, login to

RefWorks to import the references from Summon

Google Scholar

• When you go to Google Scholar, there is a link in the top, right-hand corner to “Scholar Preferences”

• Click to change your preferences and allow exporting to RefWorks

• Scroll to the bottom of the “Scholar Preferences” page

• You will see a section for Bibliography Manager.

• Click the “Show Links to import citations into” radio button

• Select “RefWorks” from the pull-down menu

• Make sure to Save Preferences

• Once you save your preferences you will be returned to the Google Scholar Search box.

• Search for a topic of your choice• Your results will look like this:

• Last link below short abstract is “Import into RefWorks”• Click link to export• Login to RefWorks when prompted• *Note*: you can only export one reference at a time from Google

Scholar
