“It is the most remarkable, certainly the most

successful, book ever to come out of the great

publishing corporations of Ursa Minor. More

popular than the Celestial Home Care Omnibus,

better selling than Fifty Three Things to Do in

Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolon

Colluphid’s trilogy of philosophical blockbusters

- Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God’s

Greatest Mistakes and Who is this God Person

Anyway?”

My parents bought me this copy of the ‘Guide’ in 1989 and I honestly have to say that I have lost count of how many times I have read and re-read its yellowing pages. I still laugh out loud when reading it and find it impossible to put down.

I like The Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy... I really do.

Could you introduce yourself for thereaders?

Hi to all there before anything, my name is Jose.luis Gutierrez, I am 25 years old and live in a small village in Austurias called Aviles in northern Spain. I am married and have got one child who is 20 months old. I work as gprs technical support for the customers of Amena, a mobile comunications company.

What first started you in the creative field?

Don´t know, when I was studying I discovered Photoshop 5.0 and it was funny, so I think everything started then with photo compositions and later with webdesign and flash. Since I can remember I have drawing all my life.

Who are your main influences?

At the beginning it was Derbauer, it was amazing to watch to their sites and intros. I also like a lot Derek Prospero´s work and Rothko paintings. Later I started to visit sites about designing and I discovered pix-elsurgeon, k10k, surfstation and the fwa. I can’t name just one person or a firm that has been a influence on my work. I also like Radiohead covers and Tools imagery. I think I have got a mix inside, it depends on what I am trying.

Could you describe your working method?

Try,try,try...that´s all. The result has never been like the original idea, and luck is there anytime, you try something looking for a result and you find a better result than the

200interview200interviewJose.luis Gutierrez

Could you describe your style?

I think it´s very different, it doesn´t stop on controversy or just abstract graphics and it has got a message which anyone can read it and understand it on their own way. I think my style is like an open book of certain feel-ings.You read it but you can tell anyone the story with your own point of view.

What would be or is your ideal project?

My ideal project has always been www.xivzone.tk It would be nice to make it my way of living as I truely like to changing and working on the site.

Do you know someone coming onto the creative scene?

Yes, I have got a friend called nestor who is a great musician, all he needs to be a star is a chance, believe me, he´s very good, talent flows through his songs.

The theme this issue is ‘I like…’, what do you like and why?

I like my son and my wife, they´re my family, they´re what makes me wake up everymorning and go to work thinking I got a reason to keep trying, I couldn´t live without them.

one you were expecting. There is no method, just jam a little and somehow you´ll find the answer. I spend a lot of hours on each work, even weeks that´s what makes it funny

What is your favourite movie?

Just one?. It´s very difficult to name just one, maybe the “Shipping News” it´s very calm, and very common, I truly enjoyed it a lot and it´s a great story.

What music are you currently listening to?

A lot, music is always on while I amdesigning, Radiohead, A perfect circle, Rem,

Joss Stone, Eminem,NIN.... all have theirinfluence on me.

Is there any individual or group you would like to collaborate with on a creative project?

Could it be Thom Yorke? I don´t know, maybe Guy Ritchie or if it was just for designing with “all your prey” or “monkey say monkey do”, I think they are great. I also like how Trent Reznor sells his image and his artwork.

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

ufffff, I hope I could be working on designing and living from my creations, but I see myself more like a 40 year old father with a big black car and completely bald.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am just updating www.xivzone.tk and trying to collaborate with some projects as fruitmachine or redwebsite or bijaxous or twohundred, it ain´t ended.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I wanted to be michael jordan, all the time. I wish I could be him but I´m not so much tall.

Favourite website?

www.allyourprey.com and www.de-construct.com, I am waiting on their new site.

What is your favourite medium to work in?

I like to work in photoshop and flash, but i usually use true photos and I change them after, I also work with handrawing with illustrator and so it would be nice to work in marketing but Itruely enjoy working on websites.

What equipment do you use?

A wireless mouse and a graphic tablet, a wacom din a6. My cpu is an amd 2.6 athlon xp, and of course, a 15” tft screen, it´s very important not to become blind.

What do you think will be the next big thing in the creativeindustry?

Maybe an art gallery with graphic design, I mean with tft screens and I think one day all houses will have this decoration so you can change your pictures every day, this could be a revolution, no styles, everything for your taste, you wanted it, you got it, as easy as it sounds.

What is your favourite font?

Megalomania X nowadays, I´ve found it some weeks ago and I think it´s beautiful, but I also like Octavio and 1942 report, I don´t like too many pixel fonts, they seem boring.

Is there anything you would like to say to the readers?

I am truely happy of having been interviewed by twohundredby200, it´s been a pleasure. Keep on trying and of course keep on reading the webzine twohundredby200, thanks andgod bless you.
