Geometry in the Real World

An undefined term in geometry, it names a location and has no size.

Point

An undefined term in geometry, a line is a straight path that has no thickness and extends forever.

Line (Segment)

An undefined term in geometry, it is a flat surface that has no thickness and extends forever.

Plane

A figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint.

Angle

Lines that intersect at 90° angles.

Perpendicular Lines

Lines in the same plane that do not intersect.

Parallel Lines

A three-sided polygon.

Triangle

A triangle with one right angle.

Right Triangle

A five-sided polygon.

Pentagon

A six-sided polygon.

Hexagon

A quadrilateral with four congruent sides and four right angles.

Square

A quadrilateral with four right angles.

Rectangle

A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.

Trapezoid

A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.

Parallelogram

The set of points in a plane that are a fixed distance from a given point called the center of the circle.

Circle

A three dimensional figure with two parallel congruent circular bases and a curved lateral surface that connects the bases.

Cylinder

The set of points in space that are a fixed distance from a given point called the center of the sphere.

Sphere

A polyhedron formed by a polygonal and triangular lateral faces that meet at a common vertex.

Pyramid

A prism with six square faces.

Cube

A three-dimensional figure with a circular base and a curved lateral surface that connects the base to a point called the vertex.
