"Funeral Today For Mrs. Dunn, Drowning Victim"

The dead body of Mrs. Elizabeth Dunn, wife of Leonard Dunn, of Bridgeton, was found in the Neuse

river yesterday morning by John Hansen, who saw from the shore that a body was floating on the Bridgeton

side of the river about a hundred yards below the bridge.

Coroner J. R. Latham, M.D. decided that an inquest was not necessary, as the death was due either to

deliberate or accidental drowning. The funeral will be held this afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. R. M. Price

fromthe home at Bridgeton, followed by interment in the Grantsboro cemetery.

A sufferer from pellegra for many years, Mrs. Dunn is thought perhaps to have drowned herself intentionally

or to have become exhausted and drowned accidentally when she went wading. She was found with all her

clothes on except her shoes and hose.

Mrs. Dunn started from her home about 10 o'clock and evasively answered questions as to where she was

going. It was unusual for her to go out, as during the last year she had spent much time in bed. However, it

was thought that she was going to visit another neighbor.

No further thought was given her absence until Mr. Hansen reported finding the body and rowing out for it. It

was then recalled that Mrs. Dunn had recently expressed a desire on several occasions to go wading or

bathing.

Forty-five years of age, she survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Edgar Thompson, of Tarboro, and

three sons: Clifford Dunn of the coast guard cutter Pamlico, Hildred Dunn, of Vanceboro, and Julius Dunn,

of Bridgeton.
