HISTORY Oldest and most widely accepted

holiday customs in the United States. By the early fifteenth century,

handmade paper greeting cards were being exchanged in Europe.

GREETING CARD STATISTICS

Women purchase 80% of all greeting cards. Men spend more on a single card than

women. Average retail greeting cards range from

$2.00 to $4.00 (specialty cards higher). The average person receives 20 cards. 90% of American households purchase

greeting cards. The average household buys 30 cards.

ESTIMATED SIZE OF THE GREETINGS CARD MARKET Rs. 250 crores in terms of consumer

spend. The unorganized sector in the greeting

card market would be close to 40%.  the organized sector is better placed

commanding 60% market share.  The two large international greetings

brands viz Hallmark and American Greetings 

American Greetings has a licensing arrangement with Archies while Hallmark has an agreement with Vintage cards. 

A NEW AVATAR E-CARDS Greeting Cards have taken a new avatar

in this present age of Internet technology.

Advancement in the technology that began in 1990s has lead to a further growth in card industry.

E-cards are available for Birthdays, anniversary, Christmas and a host of other occasions.

THE FUTURE OF GREETING CARDS Industry growth is anticipated By 2015, the global greeting card market is

forecasted to surpass $30.4 billion per year. 

However, like so many other printing products, new technologies like e-cards, reduced birth rates, smaller family sizes and the capacity for people to generate their own cards are having an impact on sales.

Success and growth in the future will depend upon innovation in product design.
