Purpose of Testing

• Purpose of Testing IS to get the outcome of Teaching & Learning

• Purpose of Testing IS NOT a reason for Teaching & Learning

• Being aware of students' educational attainments and identifying their learning needs

Testing Outline • State Level Tests:

o CRCT (Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests)

o 3rd and 5th Grade Writing Assessments

o GKIDS (Kindergartens – ongoing)

• District (Fulton County) Level Tests: o ITBS (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills®) for 3rd and 5th Grades)

o Checkpoints (Not available for Charter Schools)

• Internal (School-Wide) Tests o MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)

o Benchmark Tests

o Writing Assessment Benchmarks

• Available for 3rd , 4th , 5th grades

• State Level Test

• Assessing grade level performance standards

• Score range: 700-990(~ vary)

• Levels: o Level 1 – Do not meet (below 800 )

o Level 2 – Meet (above 800, below 850)

o Level 3 – Exceeding (above 850)

• Available for Grades 3 and 5 only

• County Level Test

• National comparison of students' achievement

vs. that of students nationwide

• Compares a student’s performance to others

who have taken the same test under the same

conditions

• Score range: 1 percentile – 99 percentile

• Level: 50 percentile is national norm

• Computerized online test

• Administered 3 times in a school year.

• Adaptive: Significant difference between MAP and ITBS as NRT (Similar to SAT)

• Score range: 1 percentile – 99 percentile

• Level: 50 percentile is national norm

• RIT Score: Rasch unIT

3rd Grade Writing Assessment • 3rd Grade Writing Assessment consists of teacher

evaluation of student writing using an analytic scoring

system

• Types of writing required by the GPS (narrative,

informational, persuasive and response to literature)

• Using representative samples of student writing, third-

grade teachers are to use the analytic scoring rubrics

• Teachers collect writing samples by providing many

opportunities for students to produce the various types

of writing throughout the year

5th Grade Writing Assessment • The writing assessment for grade five consists of an

evaluation of each student response to an assigned

prompt

• Students are assigned a topic from a prompt bank

representing three genres:

o narrative

o informational

o persuasive

• Students are allowed approximately 120 minutes to

write their essays

• The writing assessment is administered in one day.

• Assesses grade level curriculum

• Promotion to 4th Grade: 3rd Grades must pass

• Promotion 5th Grade: 5th Grades must pass

• Placement Criteria for Advanced and

Accelerated Levels
