≈v3: 20 The man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

tiller of the ground9:20 Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard.

≈v2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.

reiteration of the blessing9:1-7 // 1:26-30

Genesis 1:26-30 Genesis 9:1-726 And God said,

"Let us make humans in our image,

according to our likeness;

and let them rule over the fish of the sea,

and over the birds of the sky,

and over the cattle,

and over all the earth,

and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

27 And God created the human in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

28 And God blessed them; and God said to them,

"Be fruitful and increase, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over every living (beast) that creeps on the earth."

29 And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant seeding seed

that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has in it the of the tree seeding seed;

for you, it shall be food;30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the skies, and to every creeping thing on the earth which was a living creature, every green plant for food".

1 And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them,

"Be fruitful and increase, and fill the earth.

2 And the fear of you and the terror of you shall be

on every beast of the earth,

and on every bird of the skies,

on everything that creeps on the ground,

and on every fish of the sea;

into your hand they are given.

3 Every creeping thing that is alive shall be food for you;

as (I gave) the green plant, I give everything to you.

4 Surely you shall not eat flesh with its life, (that is,) its blood.

5 And surely I will require your blood for your lives;

from the hand of every living thing I will require it.

And from the hand of humans,

from the hand of each person's brother,

I will require the life of humans.

6 The one who sheds the blood of humans,

by humans their blood shall be shed.

For in the image of God he made humans.

7 And as for you, be fruitful and increase;

Swarm in the earth and increase in it."

Noah’s obedience vs. Adam’s disobedience6:22 Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.7:5 And Noah did all that the LORD had commanded him.7:9 . . . As God had commanded Noah.7:16 . . . As God had commanded him.

reversing of the curse:5:29 he named him Noah, saying, “Out of the ground that the LORD has cursed

this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the toil of our hands.”

8:21 And when the LORD smelled the pleasing odor,the LORD said in his heart,“I will never again curse the ground because of humankind . . .”

Creation Theology in the “Creation Psalms”

Psalm 33 (NRSV)

10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;

he frustrates the plans of the peoples.11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever,

the thoughts of his heart to all generations.12 Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD,

the people whom he has chosen as his heritage.

1a Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Psalm 104 (NIV)

1b O LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed

with splendor and majesty.

2 He wraps himself in light as with a garment;

he stretches out the heavens like a tent

3a and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

3b He makes the clouds his chariot

and rides on the wings of the wind.

4 He makes winds his messengers,

flames of fire his servants.

 5 He set the earth

on its foundations;

it can never be moved.

10a He makes springs pour water into the ravines;

10b it flows between

the mountains.

11a They give water to all the

beasts of the field;

11b the wild donkeys

quench their thirst.

12a The birds of the air nest by the waters;

12b they sing among the branches.

13a He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;

13b the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work.

14a He makes grass grow for the cattle,

14b and plants for humans to cultivate –

bringing forth food from the earth:

15 wine that gladdens the heart of

humans, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.

the stork has its home in the pine

trees.

19 The moon marks off the seasons,

and the sun knows when to go down.

20 You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.

21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.

22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.

23 Then humans go out

to their work,

to their labor until evening.

24 How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full

of your creatures.

25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond

number-- living things both large and small.

27 These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time.

28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;

when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

when you take away their breath, they die and return to the

dust.

29 When you hide your face, they are terrified;

30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.

31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever;

may the LORD rejoice in his works --

33 I will sing to the LORD all my life;

I will sing praise to my God

as long as I live.

34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,

as I rejoice in the LORD.

35b Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Praise the LORD.
