Boda Boda Mechanics Training (Siti Hydro)

• Boda boda (motor bike taxis) are a very popular and critical transport means in rural Uganda

• Riders used to travel 40 km from Project area to Kapchorwa for repairs/maintenance

• Organised 7-month training course and constructed a training workshop

• 35 youth completed the course, 8 have set up their own workshops in main trading centres

Community Development Activity

Traditional Birth Attendant Training (Siti Hydro)

• 1 midwife covering 30km radius in Chesower sub-county

• Organised 1-year training course for TBAs through Mbale Hospital

• Originally 50 women enrolled

• 35 completed course, 3 working at Chesower and Tulel Health Centres, Rest called upon to assist midwife in remote areas

Community Development Activity

Provision of Access to Water (Lubilia Hydro)

• Access to water a key challenge in the project area

• Women responsible for collecting water

• Difficult terrain to water source (steep hills), slippery footpaths

• Approached Water Company in Bwera to develop a community water supply to serve 300-400 households in 3 villages

• Design considering providing water points along canal route for installing standpoints at key locations.
