Prendre = to take, to have(This verb is irregular. It does not follow a pattern

and you will have to memorize each word.)

je prends nous prenons

tu prends vous prenez

il prend ils prennent

elle prend elles prennent

on prend Negative: Je ne prends pas…

There are other verbs that follow the same pattern as prendre.

Boire = to drink(This verb is irregular)

Negative: Nous ne buvons pas de Coca.

To form the partitive, use the preposition de followed by a

definite article.

Partitives – In French, partitive articles are used to express

some or any.

Je bois du thé chaud.

I drink (some) hot tea.

Elle prend de l’eau?

Is she having (some) water?

Partitive articles are only used with non-count nouns (nouns whose

quantity cannont be expressed by a number).

Tu prends de la soup tous les jours.

Tu prends une banane, aussi.

You have (some) soup every day.

You have a banana, too.

To give a negative response to a question asked using the

partitive structure, always use ne…pas de.

Est-ce qu’il a du lait?

Does he have any milk?

Non, il n’a pas de lait. No, he doesn’t have any milk.

Regular –ir verbsLike regular –er verbs, there are

several verbs that end in “–ir” that follow a pattern.

You have to take off the “-ir” on the infinitive and put the new ending on

to conjugate the verb.

(**Note: Not ALL verbs that end in –ir are automatically “regular –ir

verbs”…like avoir, for example.)

Je finis

Tu finis

Il finit

Elle finit

On finit

Nous finissons

Finir = to finish(Regular –ir verb)

Vous finissez

Ils finissent

Elles finissent

Negative: Nous ne finissons pas la pizza.

Other regular –ir verbs will be conjugated the same way. (Remove the –ir and add the new ending. )

Choisir = to chooseJe choisis nous choisissons

Tu choisis vous choisissezIl choisit ils choisissent

Elle choisit elles choisissentOn choisit
