JulyandDecemberwereloadsoffunandfilledwithwonderfulfoodofferings.Wehadourownmembers,SueBurtonandLynnParker,whoprovidedoutstandinginstructionsandguidanceintheirtwoclasses.ToneHaughen-Cogburn’s“MiniatureLandscape”classinNovemberwasverywellattendedandreceived,too.TheChallengeandMysteryQuiltrevealinMaywasbrilliantundertheguidanceofDebPlummerandCherylBrickey.We’reveryproudofthespectacular2016QuiltShow,“ThreadedMemories”inApril,co-chairedbyDarleenSanfordandSandyWolf.Thesetwoladiesweretirelessandthereweremanyopportunitiesforeverymemberoftheguildtoparticipate.ThereisthePhilanthropyteamco-chairedbyLoisGaston,DebbieJohnsonandTerryWeinbenderwhohaveguidedmanypiecesoffabricandbindingintocomfortingquiltsandbeautifultotebagsforthethreeshelterswesupport.Haveyoubeeninspiredtoworkwiththeseladies?Theyhavefabric,batting,bindingandlabelsreadyforanyofthemanystepsittakestomakeaquiltortote.Rememberthatonepersondoesnothavetomakeaquiltfromstart-to-finish.Youcanworkonanystepintheprocess…justaskLois,DebbieorTerriwhoareeagertoshare.TheQuiltsofValororganizationhasalsohadanamazingyearofparticipation.Manymenandwomeninourstatewhoareactivedutymilitaryalongwiththenumerousveteransamongusappreciatebeingcoveredinaquiltmadeespeciallyforthem.ContactSuzanneDiCarlowhoisourstatecoordinatorforQOVonwaysyoucanprovidesupport.Ourrecaphasgivenusthechancetoreviewanotherwonderfulyearoffriendship,learningandsharingaswehaveeachhadachance–ortwo–toactivelyparticipateinFPQG.Asyoulooktowardsthebrandnewcalendaryear,pleasetakealookatthecommitteesandclassesandopportunitiesyouhavetolearnandexperienceevenmorewithusandourguild.SeeyouonDecember1st,KarenCarson

Programs BeginninginJanuary2017wehaveawonderfulline-upoflecturersandworkshopopportunitiesforeveryone:OnJanuary5wewillhaveNancyZukandCherylAldermanwhowillpresenttheir“TakeaVicariousTriptoBali”.TheywillsharetheirexperienceswithusalongwithbeautifulBatikfabricandBalidisplays.Thiswillbeafuneveningandyoudonotneedtobringyourpassport!OnFebruary2thePizzaGirlsfromQuilter’sGallerywillpresenttheir“ShowandTell”trunkshow.Manyofyourememberthelasttimetheycamewithalargearrayofquilts,patternsandideas.Theypromisebrandnewthingstoinspireus.OnFriday,February3,PattiandCindywillteachtheir“15Degree”class.RegistrationformswillbeavailableatDecember’smeeting,aswellasonourwebsiteafterthemeeting.Thiswillbeafunclass,somarkyourcalendarstoday.March2willbeahighlyinterestingandinformativelecturetitled“HappyTrails–AQuiltingJourney”.PlantoattendinMarchforsomegreatinspirationinwaysyoumightnotexpect.April6willbeourChallengeandMysteryQuiltreveal.Whatfunwewillhavewhileweadmirealloftheideas,implimentationsandworksofartproducedbyourmembers.SandyWolfandCherylBrickeyarereadytomakethisaveryenjoyablemeeting.Areyouplanningtoparticipateinthereveal?BesuretocheckwithSandyandCherylfordetails.LecturesandclassesareplannedforMay4&5withKarenPonischilandJune1&2withNancyMahoney.Moredetailsarecoming.Fornow,though,itwouldbeagreatideatomarkyourcalendarswiththeseimportantdates.

• Painter’stapeisgreatformarkingcrosshatchingonquilts.Itcomesinvariouswidths;it’seasytoremoveandreuse;andit’sstraighteverytime.Italsokeepsconsistencyinspacing.

• Sometimesapre-cutroll(jellyroll)hasalotofloosethreads,sousealintrolleronbothsidesoftherollbeforeyouopenit.Thiseliminatesmostofthemessythreadsandlint.Thenuseitonyourmatafterwardstopickuptherestofthethreads,etc.leftafterunrollingtheset.
