During highschool Colin was very involved in extracurricular activities including Earth Club, Honor Society and ACE (Architecture Construction and Engineering Mentorship). The summer after Highschool Colin took an internship at bARC / babienko ARCHITECTS pllc where he created multiple marketing documents and worked on various projects. He created multiple physical models as well as Sketchup models and CAD drawings.

two-dimensions

took photographs of our environment and surroundings to capture ele-ments of composition and design

01 see ing

four sketches of different details from the Harford Pier in Avila

02 see ing

two watercolors of view from the Harford Pier in Avila

03 see ing

used transitive verbs to break apart and expand photographs across nega-tive space

04 expanding

interpolated the void between two pictures in both digital and analog formats

05 intersect ing

three-dimensions

created two chipboard models based on the two source pictures, then made a new hanging model from these pictures, and finally recorded the shadow of this hanging model on a sheet of bristol

01 developing

reengineered a hanging model that would recreate the shadow of the previ-ous model and then created a final model from that model

01 developing

cut the digital interpolated void into four inch by four inch squares and glued them onto a cube to create a three dimensional composition from the two dimensional one

02 wrapping

bent wire to explore the combination of curves starting with higher gauge wire and finishing with a final draft with lower gauge wire and a more

03 bending

created a form out of old siding to create a plaster cube from which materi-al was removed based on the variation on the exterior left by the formwork in order to create space

04 removing

milled two pieces of wood to connect using three different joints: a box joint, mortise and tenon, and sliding dovetail joint

05 jo in ing

connected pieces of metal using three different joints: a pop rivet, solder, and spot weld

pier

took pictures, sketched, watercolored, and measured our section of the pier to allow for accurate recreation later

01 explor ing

drafted drawings based on the measurements obtained and recreated on of rubbings from the pier using charcoal

02 remember ing

redesigned the pier in a way to accomodate and be functional for our unique set of activities as well as work together with the neighboring sites on the pier to provide consistency throughout

03 re imagin ing

recreated and refined the previous model our of basswood for the final exhibition

04 complet ing

put together the models from all of the groups to create the pier in its entirety

05 gather ing

05 gather ing

made an oblique projection drawing of my platform of the pier as it has been redesigned

06 combining

Through all of the hardwork put in this quarter I have learned a lot about architecture and design, as well as a lot about myself. Through studio I have discovered my full potential and the incredible things I can achieve through talking to and collaborating with others. Coming into this quarter I feel that I had more experience than many people in the class and was able to use my experience to help teach and show others as well as develop and refine my own skills.
