Getting to know you How many of you have your own

gun? What types of guns do you use? How many of you hunt? Who do you hunt and shoot with?

Important Information Everyday 11 people under 19 are

killed by firearms. Firearms related injuries are the 2nd

leading cause of death for children between 10-14 years old.

Handguns account for the majority of firearms related injuries in the United States.

Know how your firearm works. Store it unloaded and locked. Keep it out of reach of young

children. Lock up ammunition

separately. When possible, use trigger

locks.

Safety Rules

Always treat firearms as if they are loaded.

Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction.

Never put your finger on the trigger until you have decided to shoot.

Always be aware of your target and its surroundings.

Never point your gun at anything you don’t want to destroy.

Good or Bad?

Good or Bad?

Range Safety Follow all range rules. Listen to the Range Master. Always keep the muzzle pointed

downrange. Always keep the gun on “safe” until you

are ready to shoot. Wear ear and eye protection. Never load the weapon until you’re ready

to shoot. Be aware of ricochets.

Hunting Etiquette Know the regulations. When approached by a Fish & Game

Officer, Police Officer, or another hunter, always hold your firearm in a non-threatening manner.

Know your safe zones of fire. Keep your gun on safe until ready to

shoot. Sling or holster your gun when climbing. Never use your scope to spot. When in doubt, don’t shoot.

Zones of Fire Know your environment. Know your backgrounds. Know where your buddies are positioned. Don’t shoot if you are not sure.
