DEFINITION

Filial therapy is a therapeutic intervention to promote parent – child interaction and improves child’s behavior across culture.

WHY FILIAL THERAPY?

Gap between parent & child expands daily. Many parents are unaware of their children’s

emotional needs and lacks skills necessary to interact effectively with them on emotional basis.

Best communication occurs between parents and children through play.

Communication gap can be closed when play was as a therapeutic agent.

WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT PLAY IN PLAY THERAPY?

Parent focuses exclusively on child W/O interruptions for 30 minutes.

Child gets lead to play. Parents puts child’s action, feelings & thoughts

into words W/O questioning, teaching and praising.

Parents learn to set limits on the child’s behavior.
