M odular Fire Body
Our extruded bodies are built with character. You’ll likely never see the 2” x 4” extruded aluminum triple gussets at the cross-members, the plug welds that attach body corners to the hose bed sides or the reinforcing plates at every corner inside the pump compartment. If you never see them, why do we go to that length to build our bodies so strong? Because it’s the right thing to do. So when you respond to emergencies with a Ferrara apparatus, you’ll feel secure knowing that body is built to last beyond a lifetime.
Built from 6061-T6 and 6063-T6 aluminum alloys, each of our certified extrusions are custom designed for a specific use in the apparatus body. Our sub-frame, compartment framework, hose bed, wheel wells, beavertails, pump compartments, and running board assemblies all rely upon heavy duty extruded aluminum shapes that have a particular design function.
Ferrara’s modular body is available in 12 gauge galvanneal, 12 gauge stainless steel or 3/16” thick marine grade aluminum. The all-welded heavy duty sub-frame is the backbone of the strongest formed fire body available today. Each modular body subframe consists of a welded steel or stainless steel grid to support the weight of the body and booster tank.
Additionally, 3 cross members are full width of the body to brace the front and rear equipment. All compartments are true sweep-out style and are reinforced underneath to carry the equipment you need. Every piece of the body that is not aluminum diamond plate gets DuPont Imron paint protection. We further protect the subframe and underside of the body with a heavy mil-spec undercoating.

E quipment StorageThe days are long gone when fire departments responded only to the occasional house fire. Today, it may be ALS, extrication, dive-rescue, Haz-Mat, tactical rescue, collapse, or USAR, which require specialized tools and equipment. Each apparatus is engineered to maximize compartment space and storage areas. Rescue tools and equipment are strategically placed to enhance the response capabilities of your department.
Deep compartments and sliding shelves allow for complete equipment organization and storage.
Customize compartments to fit particular equip-ment needs, such as extrication gear.
SCBA storage compart-ments can be placed above the wheel well for quick access.
Configure a rear thru-the -tank compartment for ladder, pike pole, and backboard srorage.

The MVP is available on all Ferrara custom chassis, with water tanks up to 1000 gallons. Ask Ferrara’s engineers to design your MVP with a cab and body that will meet your needs and easily carry all the eq uipment you need! The MVP has an extruded aluminum body and the heavy duty construction you expect from Ferrara.
esigned with firefighter safet in mind, the MVP features low step heights, frame rail height crosslays, low hose bed and lowered body height to make it easier to retrieve eq uipment.
Since the most important part of any pumper is the pump, the flows up to 2250 G PM. With available 500 G PM pump and roll, the MVP allows you to attack the fire an where.
The MVP has available pump and roll with a transmission PTO driven pump. Feeding back into the midship pump discharges, ou can flow through two handlines at psi, while driving an easy 2½ miles per hour.
Because the MVP uses a traditional shaft-driven midship pump, intakes and discharges are where you want them; easy to access and at the proper height. The conventional yet compact pump panels provide everything you’d expect in a pumper: jump lines, triple crosslays, deck gun, rear body, hose bed and LD H discharges.

Our all welded construction, stainless steel fire bodies are built like no other. Ferrara trucks are known throughout the industry as heavy duty and our stainless steel body takes that concept to the extreme – Extreme Duty, that is.
The strength of the stainless steel body starts with the subframe. Constructed from welded stainless steel tube, flat bar, angle and plate, this structure supports the entire body. The primary shape in the subframe is a 2” x 3” x 3/8” thick stainless steel tube, used for full width crossmembers and floor joists.
The 12 gauge stainless steel compartments, like the rest of the body, are laser cut and built on fixtures to assure accuracy.
The upper body is framed with welded stainless steel tubing and then overlaid with 12 gauge stainless steel plate. This upper body structure gives the body dditional strength and also creates a safe interior for crews to do their work.

Each Ferrara body is custom built to your requirements. At Ferrara, we believe that a custom body means you have more input than choosing the number of shelves and trays.
That means, among other things, you decide how large a compartment should be, based on the equipment you need to carry.
The walk-in heavy rescue shown here contains:• Approximately 16,000 pounds of stainless steel• 2500 square feet of stainless steel plate• Over 480 feet of stainless steel uni-strut supports
the adjustable shelves & trays• The walk-in floor, made from stainless steel tread
plate, is supported by 2” x 3” stainless steel tubing on 14” centers
We engineer toughness into every detail of our construction. We start with 2,000,000 RBM chassis frame rails that have only a 10.5” height so the apparatus has a lower center of gravity. Then we match the running gear to your individual needs. You choose the engine/horsepower, tell us the load you plan on carrying and we’ll select the correct ax-les. Your firefighters are protected by our roll cage extruded aluminum cab. Available in more than 50 different configurations, there’s one to suit your department. Seating configurations for 2 through 10 occupants, gear for rehab, ALS responses, dive teams and more, our engineers can design a true custom cab for your department.
Ferrara’s construction is tested tough. The Inferno and Igniter cabs have undergone ECE-29 testing, sustaining frontal impact at 127% of the standard

Barrier Doors on the Inferno and Igniter Chassis!
The ¾ length barrier doors of our Inferno and Igniter cabs give you safe entry and exit with open grip-strut step material on the lower cab step. Plus, since the first step is exterior, you keep the cab cleaner. Barrier doors from Ferrara provide an exceptional seal around all sides to keep the elements and road noise out of the cab.
We don’t use lightweight components and you don’t have to settle for a lightweight fire truck. The rugged construction of Ferrara’s Inferno and Igniter chassis, coupled with our extruded aluminum body, is built for the heavyweight fights you encounter in fire fighting.
and vertical loading at 300% of the standard. Additionally, our extruded aluminum body was load tested under the same 66,000 pound weight as our cabs. Want to see the test for yourself? You can view it in the video section of our website: www.FerraraFire.com.
F-Shield from Ferrara Fire Apparatus is the most comprehensive corrosion protection system designed for fire apparatus. Calcium chloride and other deicing agents can reek havoc with your fire truck’s undercarriage. F-Shield stops it from happening.
With F-Shield, chassis frame rails, cross members, fuel tank and air reservoirs are encapsulated in a ruggedized, protective coating. The air reservoirs, reservoir hanger straps, fuel tank and fuel tank straps are treated separately prior to assembly. The frame, cross members, bumper backing reinforcement plate, radiator skid plate, spring hangers, cab lock mounts and required bolts are in place prior to treatment to ensure complete coverage.
Ferrara’s Independent Front Suspension offers significant advant ges over conventional straight-beam axle and leaf spring configu ations.
Dual coil springs and a double wishbone suspension is compact, taking up much less space than awkward torsion bar systems.
And with Ferrara’s coil spring suspension, there are no limits to cab size. Choose from our 2-door Rescue/Tanker cab, the compact Short 4-Door cab, all the way up to our spacious Extra-Long command cab. All are compatible with the Ferrara IFS!
The Ferrara IFS is a great addition to any Inferno or Igniter pumper, tanker, aerial, platform or heavy rescue!
Coil Spring Suspension• Eliminates creep and sag – no
need for lean adjustments.• More space-efficient package than
torsion bar designs.• Variable spring rate for improved handling characteristics.
Greater Vehicle Control • Up to 10” of suspension travel
absorbs greater road forces and irregularities, increasing ride comfort.
• Dual TRW steering gears provide a safer, more predictable steering response.
Weight Rating• Front axle ratings up to 24,500
pounds are available.

Y ou’re a responding to an emergency. Adrenaline is flowing and you are keenly aware of what needs to be done when you arrive. At Ferrara, we may not be able lend you a hand on-scene,
but we will do all we can to make sure you get there and back safely. That’s why we went to the extent we did when we crash tested not only our Inferno™ and Igniter™ cab, but also our extruded aluminum body. The extra mile. It’s what you’ve come to expect from Ferrara.
Y ou see, when we crash tested our Inferno/Igniter™ custom chassis, it was much more than loading an empty cab. We built a complete fire apparatus: chassis frame with running gear, tires and wheels, engine, transmission, midship pump, booster tank, medium 4-door cab and extruded aluminum body.
We started with a ten metric ton (22,000 pounds) vertical load, which is the ECE-29 standardand, and then added 4,400 additional pounds. The structural integrity of the roof supported the load without damage to the Inferno/Igniter™ personnel area.
N ext, a frontal impact test was conducted to simulate the impact of a head-on collision. The load subjected to the front of the cab, 3,736 pounds, is in excess of 127% of the ECE-29 standard. The 3,736 pound pendulum fell from beyond 11 feet for a 5,746 kg-m impact into the front of the cab, well above the bumper. This is eq ual to an impact velocity of 18.2 mph. To pass, the cab crew compartment must not be compromised. The cab also must remain attached to the frame.
That’s right. We built an entire fire truck and then dropped a bunch of weight on it.
Our Inferno/Igniter™ chassis was tested to and above the req uirements of the Economic Commission for Europe Structural Standards (ECE-29), the European benchmark for crash testing and safety. This standard is used throughout the commercial trucking industry here in the US.
Chris Ferrara Founder & CEO
All doors on the Inferno/Igniter™ cab remained closed during the impact but were easily opened afterwards. There was no passenger compartment intrusion nor were there any failed structural components in the cab.
Following the first vertical load and frontal impact tests, a second and third vertical load test was conducted on the same cab. The Inferno/Igniter™ cab was loaded for the second test to 54,300 pounds and then a third time to 65,979 pounds. The cab roof successfully supported 33 metric tons, more than three times the req uired amount as dictated by ECE-R29 Standard! There was no failure of the cab structure of mountings, no passenger compartment intrusion of degradation of occupant survival space, or any other structural failure.
N ot resting with a string of successful tests on the cab and chassis, Ferrara successfully placed all 65,979 pounds on the extruded aluminum body. This is not a req uired part of the ECE-29 standard, but is a measure of the strength of the body and an additional measure of protection for apparatus occupants. Placing the weight on the body showed the entire apparatus can withstand
extreme loading. To date, this has never been attempted by any other fire apparatus manufacturer.
All testing took place at Ferrara Fire Apparatus’ headq uarters in Holden, Louisiana under the auspices of Mr. A. K . Rosenhan, a Professional Engineer affiliated with Mississippi State University. Mr. Rosenhan is an internationally recognized fire expert. A complete photographic, video and dimensional record of the entire test is available at Ferrara’s offices. The video may be viewed anytime at www.ferrarafire.com. Additionally, you have a standing invitation to stop by our factory and see the original crash test apparatus. It has been untouched since testing was completed!
Founded by its CEO Chris Ferrara in 1979, Ferrara Fire Apparatus is a leading manufacturer of fire, rescue and emergency apparatus. In addition to the Inferno™ and Igniter™ , Ferrara also builds custom and commercial pumpers and tankers, aerial ladders and platforms, hazmat vehicles, incident command trucks and trailers, walk-in and walk-around rescues, Inundator industrial apparatus, and the Strong Arm fire rescue vehicle.
Ferrara’s Holden-based factory has over 300,000 sq uare feet under roof and has produced over 4,000 vehicles for service across the United States and around the world.

You battle fire and other emergency responses on a daily basis. In your arsenal of weapons you need the toughest and most rugged firefight-ing vehicle available . . . a Ferrara Fire Apparatus custom emergency vehicle. Our cab and body, built from extruded aluminum frame and 3/16” thick marine grade aluminum plate, are always heavy duty; the strongest, and most durable in the industry and considered by many to be STRONG AS A TANK! Ferrara continues to Lead the Way by engineering, designing, and building heavy duty, custom fire apparatus. Our cab and body are both constructed from 3/16” thick, corrosion resistant 5052 H32 marine grade aluminum. In an independent third party study, Ferrara cabs and bodies proved to be stronger in overall tensile/load limit, endurance limit, and RBM (Resisting Bending Mo-ments). All cab and body extrusions are certified 6061 T6 structural aluminum.
Ferrara’s Inferno and Igniter cabs feature an extruded aluminum roll cage framework and all extruded aluminum sub-frame. The cab’s double wall face, roof, floor, engine tunnel, and walls are built with 3/16” thick marine grade aluminum, welded to this heavy duty extruded structure.
Ferrara’s fire body features massive body corner extrusions, twin I-beam subframe with heavy duty gussets and extruded compartment and hose bed framework. This innovative design offers an unprecedented blend of durability and function.
The evidence is in. Clearly, Ferrara uses the strongest cab and body material available. Clearly, Ferrara builds the strongest cab and body on the market. Clearly, Ferrara Fire Apparatus are built STRONG AS A TANK!
