FROM FATHER’S DESK
From the Pastor First Repent, Then Believe in the Good News
As we begin the holy season of Lent, let’s consider the first words of Jesus as He began His public ministry: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:15). It was the time of fulfillment because all the promises of the Old Testament were fulfilled in Jesus, God-the-Son, Who became man to save us from our sins. The Kingdom of God was at hand because through Jesus we can know and follow God’s will in this life and one day enter His perfect kingdom in heaven. But why did Jesus tell us first to repent and then to believe in the Gospel? The word “Gospel” means “Good News,” because it is the good news of God’s total, unconditional, self-giving love for us. But how can we believe in God’s perfect love for us if we don’t believe that His commandments are a sign of His love for us? For example, we know that God commands us not to steal. So if we choose to steal, we are acting as if it is better for us to steal instead of obeying God. But if we act as if God’s commandment is not the best thing for us, we are saying that God commands us to do what is not best for us. If God truly loves us, He would not command us to do what is not the best for us. In effect, every time we sin we are denying God’s love for us. That is why our sins make it difficult to believe in God’s love for us. In fact, the more we sin, the harder it becomes to even believe in God! So we must first repent, we must be sorry for our sins, in order to more fully believe in the good news of God’s love for us. Jesus has given us the great Sacrament of Mercy,
Reconciliation (Confession), in which we can tell Him, through the priest, of our sorrow for our sins, and be assured of His forgiveness. It is a wonderful Lenten practice to make a good Confession. Here at St. Patrick Church we offer the Sacrament of Confession 30 minutes before every Mass and from 4 pm - 5 pm on Saturdays. For the next 5 Wednesdays of Lent, the light will be on for you to confess from 7 pm - 8 pm, with several priests available.
Take advantage of this opportunity to be forgiven for your sins. Repent and believe in the Good News of God’s great love for you!

Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our
community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering
may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you
close wounds, cure illnesses, make broken bodies whole and free downcast
spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join
us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through Lord Jesus who
healed those who believed. Amen

ADORATION 101
What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Eucharistic Adoration is spending time in prayer
before Jesus Christ, who is truly present, Body,
Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Blessed
Sacrament. The Eucharist is displayed in a special
holder called a monstrance.
Why is exposition in the monstrance preferred? To see Jesus visibly present under the appearance of the small white host is much more conducive to intimacy than hidden away in the tabernacle.
Jesus told his apostles the night before he died, “ Could you not watch an hour with me?” Mt. 26:40
Let us spend time with Jesus to praise him, to ask his help, and just to love him.

AVISOS Y EVENTOS

“Muchos padres quieren hijos perfectos.
describen vidas supuestamente perfectas.
