Faultlines.

fault:

fault:

an imperfection; failing or defect; flaw

a fracture in a rock formation along which there has been movement of the blocks of rock on either side of the plane of fracture. Faults are caused by plate-tectonic forces.

Faulty.

Experiment: Re-discover the natural process of weathering by contrasting the structural properties of electroplating with sediment-like tesselated pieces

Sampling Faults

SECTION I

Picking up a process to explore was probably one of the hardest parts of this project. I started based on an interest I had for erosion and eroding surfaces.

Faulty Plating

SECTION IV

the variety of form development unearthed in this process, could be given many applications.

Faultlines Bowls

Faultlines Dimensions

3 in. height

8 in. diameter

Faultlines Process

Set up a mold with a curved surface with general intended dimension and form of the bowl

Pour a «solid» body into it (plaster or concrete)

Start applying pressure on the ends of the mold to create the faulted pattern

Pour wax onto the now cracked surface to hold it together and remove the mold

Plate the cracked surface

Several times

Resulting plated «skin»
