At the end of this webinar, participants will:

Know the changes to UK-Spec;

Understand the ethical requirements for registrants and the evidence required;

Know the key points of Engineering Institution’s Codes of Conduct.

3rd edition 2014

Two main changes -

Apply to all three levels of registration

1. E4 – Carry out and record CPD

2. E5 – Exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner.

Third Edition of UK-SPEC:

Competence E5 requires candidates to provide evidence of how they, ‘exercise responsibilities in an ethical manner’.

Formal assessment of this new competence will begins in January 2016.

Any application scheduled for interview after this date will include assessment of this new competence.

Requirements :

“Give an example of where you have applied ethical principles as described in the Statement of Ethical Principles on page 33 (of UK-SPEC)”

“Give an example of where you have applied/upheld ethical principles as defined by your organisation or company, which may be in its company or brand values.”

Code of Conduct – 14 elements

Which do YOU think is the most difficult for you to abide by?

1. Act with due skill, care and diligence

2. Prevent avoidable danger to health or safety

3. Act in accordance with the principles of sustainability, and

prevent avoidable adverse impact on the environment and society.

4. Maintain and enhance their competence….

5. Accept responsibility for work carried out under their supervision

6. Treat all persons fairly and with respect

7. Encourage others to advance their learning and competence

8. Avoid real or perceived conflict of interest….

9. Observe the proper duties of confidentiality…..

10. Reject bribery….

11. Assess and manage relevant risks….

12. Assess relevant liability and if appropriate hold professional

indemnity insurance

13. Notify the Institution… criminal offence/bankrupt/disqualification

14. Notify the Institution of violations by other members…
