User research was conducted to address the issue that most American works in the public places such as library, coffee shop, or go on travel. Since there were so little printers on the market that meet the requirement, the travelling printer is designed to satisfy this demand.

concept ideationI started out by sketching ideation for the printer based on the research about the market, the functionality, the cost and the current trends. Then I narrowed my design by choosing one concept that has the most potential to develop.

Simply insert the cartridge into the slot and it’s ready to use. There is only one single step instead of the old time when we have to remove alot of components in order to insertthe ink cartridges into the slot.

Rollers that help grabbing and feeding papers.

One single paper feeding system.

To make it more convenient, USB cable will connect to the local laptop for activating & charging battery.

2. INK HEAD- does the printing job

3. INK CARTRIDGE HOLDER- locks the ink cartridges in place

4. CASE- cover the components

5. BELT- helps moving the ink head across

6. MOTOR- moving the belt and ink head

9. ROLLERS-grab the paper and keep the paper moving

Prototyping process started from sketch-ing model to a detailed look-like model. The sketch model was a very important step for me to learn the full size scale of the product.

Inspired by a women clutch, the leather wrap is Developed to protect the printer from the outside damages.

It is enforced with two layers: Leather and Neoprene to add the flexibility and thickness.
