StringEnsemblesTherearethreestringgroupsatCHSM(seebelow)andallaredirectedbyBryanTyler.Eachensembleperformsatschoolconcert(s)duringtheschoolyear.StudentsatCHSMhavetheoptionofplayingeitherviolin,viola,cello,orbassinastringensemble.Allarewelcometoparticipateregardlessofageorgrade.Classsizescanrangefromabout3to10studentsandstudentswillmeetwithMr.Tyleronceperweek.Newmembersareencouragedtoapplyatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.Onceenrolled,aninstructorevaluationwillbescheduledtodetermineplacement.AscheduleforallclasseswillbedeterminedbasedontheavailabilityofapplicantsforeitherWednesdays,Thursdays,orFridaysafterschool.Formoreinformationandquestionsaboutplacement,pleasecontactbtyler@tchs.org.

TheCHSMOpenStringsCHSMOpenStringsisgearedtowardsstudentsthatrecentlystudiedvioliningroupclasswithMs.Maggieorcompletedatleastoneyearofprivateinstructiononastringinstrument.OpenStringsmemberslearntocoordinatemusicreadingskillswithplayingviolin.Throughfungamesandactivitiesstudentsinthisensembleexpandanddiversifytheirplayingskillsandrepertoire.TheOpenStringswillperformatleastonceduringtheschoolyearatStringsAssembly.TheCHSMStringsTroupeCHSMStringTroupeisourintermediatelevelgroupandisrecommendedforstudentsthatcurrentlystudyfromSuzukibook1oranequivalentmethod.Memberswillplayoneoctavescalesandarpeggiostogether.Throughfunrepertoire,studentswilldevelopgreatereasewithnoteandrhythmidentification,bowdistribution,anddynamics.Readingmusicwillberequired,thoughtimewillbeofferedinclasstohelpstudentslabeltheirparts.Noteswillneedtobereviewedduringpracticeathomeandinprivatelessons.TheStringTroupewillperformregularlyatschoolassemblies.TheCHSMStringEnsembleCHSMStringEnsembleisthemostadvancedlevelofstringensembleplayingatCHS.StudentswillbeexpectedtoplayatthelevelofSuzukibook2orabove.Togethermemberswillplayoneandtwooctavemajorandminorscalesupto3sharps/flats.Readingmusicwillberequired,thoughtimewillbeofferedinclasstohelpstudentslabeltheirparts.Noteswillneedtobereviewedathomeandinprivatelessons.Repertoirewilloccasionallybetwoorthreepagesinlengthandthirdpositionwilloccasionallyberequiredforstudentsplaying1stviolin,cello,andbass.TheStringEnsemblewillperformregularlyatschoolassemblies.

GroupLessonsAvarietyofgrouplessonsaretaughtbyvariousinstructors.Aminimumnumberofstudentsavailableonthesameday/timewillberequiredtobegintheclass.ClubGlee!ledbyJessicaKionClubGlee!isbackforathirdyear!Studentsjointogethertomemorizeandperformpopularmusicwithchoreography.ClubGleeisopentostudentsfromgrade2-6regardlessofmusicaltraining.YoungerstudentsarealsowelcomeandcanbeacceptedwithanapprovalfromMs.Kion.Thedayandtimeisdeterminedbyteacherandstudentavailability.

RockBandledbyBryanPinaorNateTuckerRockBandisopentostudentswhoareinterestedinformingagroupofrockartists!Dateandtimearedeterminedbyteacherandstudentavailability.Pleasenotifyusifyouhaveagroupwhoisinterestedinsigninguptogether.Formoreinformation,contactchsm@tchs.org.BoxViolin(TBD)BoxviolinclassisopentoCHSstudentsonlyandwillprovideastrongfoundationfortheveryyoung(ages3and4)toplaytheviolin.Classeswilluse"boxviolins"madefromsmallcardboardboxesanddowelbowsBoxviolinshelpintroduceyoungchildrentothebasicmotorskillsofviolinplayingwithoutthestressofbreakingormasteringarealviolin.Classeswillfocusonlearningbasicmusicliteracyskillsinacooperativeandfunenvironment.Studentsandtheirparentswillplaygamesandsingsongstobecomefluentinbasicviolinrhythms,terminologyandopenstrings,andwilluseboxviolinstolearnthepositionsandbeginningviolinsongs.
