Arsenal Technical High School Alumni Association November 2003
As of September 30, we have received $451,417 in gifts to our endowment fund.
The new walkway has not been installed yet. The bricks have been personalized and are ready to be put in place. Hopefully, this will be completed by the time you re-ceive this newsletter. The official dedication is still scheduled to take place on Alumni Day, June 19, 2004.
As listed below, the Class of 1945 now has the most donors to date due to a number of donations to purchase a large brick. They have a one (1) donor lead over the Class of 1950 and six (6) over the Class of 1939 which had led until this report. The summary of donors by class year is as follows:
Ranked by Number of Donors Ranked by Dollars Given 1st Class of 1945 1st Class of 1950 2nd Class of 1950 2nd Class of 1953 3rd Class of 1939 3rd Class of 1951
A listing of donors to date by giving level is included on pages 9 to 11 of this newslet-ter. We will continue to receive gifts and pledges at all giving levels. A sizeable number of bricks were purchased on Alumni Day, June 21, 2003. Thank you for your continued support.
A large number of alumni have made more than one gift to our fund. Many have given additionally to have enough to buy a brick. How about a class gift for a brick? We have ten to date. Please consider doing this. We need your continued support.
Tax deductible contributions are payable to the ATHS Alumni Association Endow-ment Fund. Mail to P. O. Box 33489, Indianapolis, IN 46209-0329.
Rolla E. McAdams, Chairperson, ATHS Endowment Fund
Please Don't Forget our General Fund! Your gifts to our Endowment Fund and other special projects are much ap-preciated, but we need your ongoing support for our General Fund, as well.
Your ATHS Alumni Association is totally funded by your gifts designated for its General Fund. It is this fund that pays for the printing and mailing of your newsletter, TECHnically Speaking, which is about $5,000 for each issue, spring and fall.
Another major cost is the awards that we give each year. These include the Distinguished Alumni Awards, the Hanson H. Anderson Awards, the Karl Stipher Award, the Honorary Tech Graduate Award and the Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award. Other costs include our liability insurance, office equipment and supplies, postage and general operating expenses.
Please do what you can to support our General Fund, to help keep your Alumni Association working for Tech. If each recipient of this newslet-ter donated at least $1.00 to our General Fund, our budget would be met!
Endowment Exceeds $450,000

Sgt. James Hodge, U. S. Army (Tech class of '89) was injured in Iraq this summer. Jim was in a Jeep that ran over a landmine in Baghdad on July 28. The driver was killed, but fortunately Jim survived. He lost a hand and took quite a bit of shrapnel in his legs. He has trouble walking, but is recovering well.
Jim has served in the Army since 2000, and served in the Marines from 1989 to 1997 (pictured, right). He served in the first Gulf War as well.
He is currently stationed in Bad Nauheim, Germany, where he is recu-perating from this summer's injuries. His wife Carla, and their three children, Cindy, Mateo, and Luca, are with him there.
