F R E E Z E(v): to pause time and capture the sublime moments that this life has to offer; to cause time to halt in order to seek the beauty that lies within.

I took a themed series of pictures in Bannack, MT. After scoping out the ghost town, I couldn’t help but notice the aged wood. I found the best selection then searched for quotes that reflected the mood of each picture. The overall theme was “unique is beautiful.”

c h i a r o s c u r oThis semester, I learned about a whole new kind of photography: chiaroscuro. This style of photography is all about creating Rembrandt lighting, or strong contrasts between the light and dark.

After educating myself on this style of photography, I created an online tutorial concerning how to create chiaroscuro photography. This tutorial included seven steps to achieve the desired effect.

1. Pick a subject. 2. Determine the mood. 3. Choose a light source. 4. Experiment with light. 5. Remember the triangle. 6. Play with the camera and settings. 7. Edit away.

N at u r eGet lost or be found; nature is yearning to be explored. I’m convinced that wandering in beautiful places reveals hidden wonders. These shots captured the essence of the outdoors to me.

Black and white photos have a way of speaking emotion that sometimes color cannot. I love the classy, old style feel that black and white photos possess. Portraits can become bold and dramatic just by taking away their color.

Capture the soul; capture the heart. It’s more than posing and smiles, it’s about discovering what makes people tick and creating a good representation of them.

There are so many beautiful sights to be seen in this world, and I want experience and capture as many as I can. I love discovering the history behind a person or an object. Sometimes getting a little closer opens up an entire unseen world. I love to capture vintage items, nature, happiness, love, and emotion. In my eyes, every object has a story, every person has a past, and everything has unmeasured beauty and value.
